A phd student/professor at my university is selling his specialized sirrus for $70 and I have yet to find out the year and exact model and color and stuff..

Why is he selling it for so cheap? other then checking that's it's in good working condition, is there anything that i should be looking for?

he may be selling it cheap because he wants it to sell quick and without much fuss. Since bikes aren't very expensive to begin with, used bikes often go for way less than they're worth. If you're willing to deal with fiddling with brakes and shifting (and you should be; it's not that hard) then that bike's probably a good deal.
