I have a Centurion Signet (road bike) that I recently acquired at a yard sale. The bike is not with me now but I need to buy new tires and tubes for it as they are both broken on both wheels. I forgot to look at the actual specs, can anyone make an educated guess as to what I should buy? I'm guessing 27in but I'm not sure and if so, does that mean the tube is "27in" as well or would I get a slightly smaller tube? The real question is the width of the tire/tube or would I really have to check my bike to see? Thanks.

a tube that's labeled "27 in." is always going to be a tube designed for a 27 inch tire. (but 27 inch and 700C tubes can be used interchangeably. not so for [outer] tires.)
I'm pretty sure the bike you refer to is old enough that it would use a 27 inch tire. (assuming it's a regular adult-sized road bike.) Newer bikes use 700C, which is 8 millimeters smaller in diameter.
Does anybody here know when the switch from 27in to 700c happened?
