I'm currently looking at purchasing a road bike - I know precious little about road bikes. I'm looking at a Devinci bike right now. http://www.devinci.com/english/roadbikes2004.html (http://http://www.devinci.com/english/roadbikes2004.html.) Does anyone else have this bike (or knows someone who does) and care to share there experiences (good/bad).
I've seen some posts talking about 8/9 speed concerns. I would imagine since the shifters are Tiagra and the derailleur is 105 I do not need to worry about this - right? The bike would be primarily used for a daily commute of 50km. I intend to put a rack and some panniers on it to carry my books, papers, clothes, etc...
The bike is $1200 CDN. Is this a good price?
Also - the bike has Mavic CXP22N rims ... I may elect to put wider tires on as I have to journey over about 3-4 km daily of hard packed trail that has some small loose gravel and occasionally a bit of mud. Is it possible to put wider tires on these rims?

i decided to look around a bit more ... i'm looking for something a bit racy yet be able to take a bit of abuse on hard packed gravel paths. I'm currently looking at this one ... it has more mountain bike components on it - not sure if this is a good thing or not ... the bike is about 900 CDN.
