so I want to do a 90/90/90 workout that has a bunch of steps. I set up the program into garmin training center under workouts, however when I look in my Garmin 500, there is only courses to choose from. Is there a way to change this to a course file, or am I missing something?

Hmm, I thought that was one of the differences in the 500, in that it didn't have the virtual trainer ir interval training? Looking at the specs on Garmins site seems to say so also...
