Anyone do much riding in this area? Where to ride?

I'll be staying w/ friends who live up in the mountains above brevard (about 6 miles south as the crow flies on 276).

Thanks,
pete

Pete,

The Greenville watershed is a great area to ride, especially if you are looking for hills. Tryon, NC hosts a metric that runs up the watershed as part of the ride. I think the climb is like 8 miles, but not real steep.

A good place to go for ride info in this area is the greenville spinners (http://www.greenvillespinners.org) website. Brevard is just north of Greenville. George Hincapie has a home there.

There's plenty of good riding to be had just heading out their front door. There are a couple of state bike routes that run right through that area, part of one of them is on 276 I think. Check out: www.blueridgebicycleclub.org and check out the ride library. There's a good variety of rides on their from rolling to epic climbs. The cue sheets are well done.

I live in the area (in Haywood Co). 276 is always a favorite in the area. The parkway is the first choice of most people in the area. If you make a visit to Asheville, check out Liberty Bicycles on Hendersonville Rd (just north of the parkway). They have some route sheets around Buncombe Co. Around Brevard the best closest bet would be taking 276 up to the parkway, which is a must do. 215 is also good. For that matter, any road it incredible, just choose one.

I did a ride that went up route 151 (the start of the Pisgah ride) and it was one of the most beautiful climbs I have ever been on.
