I'm getting back into cycling and decided to fix up my old hybrid and ride it for a while rather than shell out for a brand new bike right off. I have a cro-moly frame (cough) Huffy 26" frame with 3 front / 7 rear gearing, and the rear shift lever was damaged when the bike was stored (the cable adjuster was cracked and broken off where the cable enters the shifter).
For obvious reasons, I don't want to put too much money into fixing the shifter lever. The current lever is a Shimano Altus C-10 index shifter. My question is, will any of the 7-speed shimano shifters work with my derailleur, or will I need to either find the same shifter, or replace the rear derailleur and shifter together? I see lots of 7 speed shifters on e-bay, but I'd hate to spend $20 on one and find out its not going to work.
Thanks for your advice,
Rob
