newbie from emeryville, ca need advice

hello,

...hunting for a lightweight steel frame and fork. I have a Shogun frame that was totaled in a wreck and need to strip the parts and build a new bike...

im in the bay area, specifically emeryville, ca.

can anyone direct me to a good reputable inexpensive store that can sell me a used 70's - 80's road frame around 52 - 53cm?

also: will i have bottom braket dimension load problems while exchanging that gear to any other frame that is not a japanese (shogun model)

I'm not in your area (I'm across the Columbia River from Portland, Orygun), but your bottom bracket is almost certainly standard "English" thread. 99.9% of Japanese bikes from that era, and 99.99% of newer bikes have the same threads.

Since you're swapping the frame and fork, you should get a headset with whatever you find. Many cheaper Japanese bikes from then used the JIS standards for headset dimensions, while European bikes used ISO dimensions. They're very close, but not compatible.

If you venture over to San Rafael sometime, check out the Trips for Kids Re-Cyclery. Sometimes you can find a real gem of a bike from that era. They also have a myriad of bikes and parts of all kinds and the money goes towards a good cause. A few years back, I found a Fuji Espree in excellent condition there for not much at all.
