I want to buy a new chian and cassette for my gary fisher sugar 2 + disc as they are worn. i would like to keep the original configuration but i am not sure which chain was on there originaly. The cassette is shimano CS-HG 70-9. Can anybody help me to identify a compatible chain and also give the general rule when matching chains and cassettes. PS the current chain is a SRAM PC49.

Srams work and have the cool power link. For 9 speed get a model that ends in the #9.They make better ones than the PC-49, if you have the bucks. No need to go to the top of the lne tho.

the amount of cogs on the cassette is what is important. different chains are made for each speed. single speed chains tend to be wider where as more speeds you add the thinner the chain gets.

on the chain you buy, it should say how many speeds it's compatitble for.
