you wont go wrong if you buy a Marzocchi, they are strong forks......the ECC cartridge will be nice because when you are doin xc you can dial the fork down and when you wanna go big you can open it up and give it full travel!

the Z1 Fr would go fine with your bike, it wont raise it up enough to make a difference

Runge,
How much travel does a Z-4 have? 80 or 100 mm? If it has 80 and you put a 100 mm travel fork on, it won't make much difference. If you have 100mm and you put 110 it won't make much difference. But I wouldn't go from 80 to 110mm. I had a Mag 10 with maybe 3 inches of travel, and I put a X-vert with 4 inches of travel on my bike. I can definetly tell a difference in geometry, but it's not bad. The big problem would be whether or not your bike is strong enough in the headtube area for the increased stress that a longer travel fork will cause. If your bike is aluminum I would recomend buying a new fork that has the same amount of travel as the last.

yes, I have read that post......if you get a Z1 at 130mm of travel, it will be fine....your frame wont break. If you really are scared about the head tube ovalizing because of the bit more stress, then get a headset with longer sleeves that press into the frame

I've been running a z-2 Atom Race that only has 80 mm of travel. You'll really enjoy a Marzocchi if you get one! The problem is, you'll be spoiled by it and won't want to use another fork ever again!

I switched to the x-tra heavy duty springs and have yet to bottom out the travel. Granted I'm not doing 6'0" drops, but I do ride some pretty aggressive stuff.

I think if you stuck with a 110 mm of travel you'd be happy! If you go to 130, you'll mess up your geometry too much!

If you still want a 130 mm fork, I was over at Ridemonkey and some guy is selling Dirtjumper2's for wholesale! You might check it out and see if he's got any left!

the z-4 have 80mm.

Looking at getting one of the Marazocchi Endurance Series shocks with 100mm travel(3 to pick from)

You can't go wrong with the Zokes! Regardless of which one you end up with!

I woul stick to 100 mm of travel then. 130mm would be a 50mm difference and that will really change your geometry.

so what....it lays the bike back more.....no harm there....still be able to ride the bike the same.

It lays the bike back way more than a little bit. When I put a new fork on my bike the goemtery was totally different. And if he does XC riding laying the bike back will make climinb harder, plus the tons of travel will make bobbing more prnounced. 50mm is approx. 2 inches. So if you have a 71 degree headtube you will now have a 73 degree headtube.

Also, by chainging the geometry it will increase tire flop, especially at slow speeds. So my final recomendation; If you are trying to turning your bike into more of a freeriding bike, then get the 130mm of travel. If you just want to put a new fork on your bike then I would strongly recomend sticking with 80mm or 100mm of travel. That is my position, and this is my last post. I really don't feel like having a frivilous arguement over fork travel.

God bless online measurement converters. Our founding fathers should have adopted the unit system the rest of the world uses.

Its funny too because my new bike is the exact same dimensions as my race bike but the race as an 80mm and the new bike has a 100mm on it. Standing side by side you can see the difference and sitting on it it's way different. I haven rode it yet because i still have a few parts to install but i already know it's going to be different because I have set on it. In this particular instance it's not going to be life changing be cause it's going to be a "fun" bike and not a race. I could not see going with any more travel, for me, because it would just change the angles too much.

God bless you too. It may not seem like a few extra mm's of travel will change the bike that much, but it does.
