General Cycling Discussion - Please recommend a pair of rain pants

The current pair of rain pants I have are not breathable, I sweat to death in them.
Please recommend a pair of rain pants that breathe well but also resist a downpour reasonably well.

Despite commuting through Seattle all winter, I haven't worn rain pants for quite a while. I never found a pair that didn't build up too much sweat. Given a choice between staying warm and sweaty and staying warm but damp with rain, I went for the rain, it's cleaner.

In colder rain, mid-30s and below, nothing I've found beats Sugoi 220 Firewall tights. The front is wind-proof and almost completely waterproof, the back breathes well enough to not get sweaty. They keep me plenty warm, and only a little bit damp. (Note, that's with full fenders and mudflaps -- they make a huge difference.)

I've been happy with my Gore-tex pants from Taiga Works. They have full zips on the sides so you can have some active ventilation if needed, although in 90f temps nothing is going to vent well.

try rainlegs. I haven't used mine yet, however the concept is good and they get a lot of good reviews.

I have a set of rain pants by Performance.... They are hot, sweaty , don't breathe. So much so, you wonder if the water originates from the inside or outside..Plus, they leak about the seams..
... . I much prefer water resistant tights. They breathe. Are cooler. and more water resistant.. And the leakage seems less so that rain pants...

This may or may not be possible for you given your commuting route, but on rainy days I just wait 20-30 minutes for a bus to take me home. I used to bike during rain, but for me its not worth getting soaked anymore.

Rainlegs work really well for me.

Waterproof, breathable, cheap: choose any two. The problem with most any "breathable" fabrics, especially nylon, is that they breathe just fine until they're covered with a uniform layer of water. The water won't usually penetrate the fabric but prevents the vapor in the inside from getting out.

I generally use my Rainlegs down to about 32F and in anything but a downpour. My foul weather cycling shoes also have waterproof uppers.

My Mountain Hardwear Epic rain pants breathe really well but they will soak through given enough water and time. I wonder about the durability of the Conduit fabric when they're being subjected to cycling duty though. I use them almost exclusively for hiking, snowshoeing, and xc skiing.

I use my Showers Pass rain pants when the weather is really getting with it. They don't breathe all that well but they can stand up to cycling, have articulated legs, and have never once soaked through on me.
