Forum Suggestions & User Assistance - Big problem with forum registration.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I just registered on this site. In fact, this is my first post, and I had to mention a big problem with the registration process. I tried about 6 or 8 times to register before I was able to successfully complete the registration. I kept getting this error:

"You have chosen not to accept the forum rules, so registration can not continue."

Of course, I HAD chosen to acccept the rules, so the error message didn't make sense. After trying about 6 or 8 times, I finally figured out that the problem was not with the forum rules, but the fact that I was choosing a username that was already taken (I tried to use my first name). The site should give an error that says something like: "That username is already in use".

I wonder how many other new members the site may have had, who've been discouraged and given up after getting an incorrect error message when trying to register with a common name.

It's been 3 days... any administrators going to address this issue?

Took 10 tries plus seeing this thread to get in.
Frustrated that there were no means of sending a message to report the problem until after successfully registering! Big C-22.

Could it be that your first chosen username was actually in use, you went back to change it and the "accept the Forum rules" got reset? I know I have had to manually re-select it in similar circumstances (though here for some reason my username was available).

Welcome to the Forums in any case!

Thanks guys, this has been fixed, it was a problem with the username table and providing the correct error message.
