I have no good reason for a Power Meter ... I'm not fast and I don't really train all that much. But I'm a bike geek at heart and love the data.

Anyway, I've been reading a book on power meter training and want to do a CP30 test to establish a baseline. CP30 is the power you can put out sustained for 30 min. The book suggests that you go to a place with fairly low traffic and a long, slight incline.

I live next to the Santa Monica mountains and all my normal routes have quite a few hills and some stoplights. Any suggestions on a good place to go all out for 30 min around the LA area?

And I don't mind driving a little either. Thanks!

pch out near point mugu, pretty flat there, ride west into the wind* and you'll have a a good non-stop 30 minute test and a good tail wind for your cooldown ride back.

*occasionally the wind will be blowing the other direction

laps at the rose bowl is another choice.

Next to the Santa Monicas where? There are several good climbs you can do that are fairly consistent and uninterrupted, like Latigo.

Mandeville Cyn.?

La Grange does/did a time trial (http://www.lagrange.org/mandevilletimetrial.htm)there every year. It's a nice steady climb, with only a few stop signs, and one less homicidal doctor on the road.
