Foo - Mobile Phone Headset Recommendations

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I cycle with my mobile phone. Since I ride mostly in rural areas or on backroads and with a headset I find it to be quite safe. It similar to riding with a friend and talking while you ride.

I've tried using the Jabra FreeSpeak (http://www.jabra.com/products/FreeSpeak_Bluetooth.htm) and although it's a great Bluetooth headset, I end up getting too much wind noise using it. So I purchased a cheap headset with a boom (http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Merchant_Id=&Section_Id=82&pcount=&Product_Id=125736) from Belkin, but I can't leave it in my ear because my ear canal ends up getting sore after while.

Seeing pro riders wear push-to-talk headsets all day connected to their radios gives me hope that I could indeed find something that might work well on the bike. Granted, I don't want a push to talk headset, just one that handles wind noise fairly well and fits comfortably for long rides.

So I thought I'd throw this question out to the collective knowledge base that is BikeFormus.net and see if anyone had any suggestions. What headset would you recommend?

Note: please don't turn this thread into a soapbox for you to laud the merits of using or not using a mobile phone on a bike. Life is too short.

i know this probably isn't the solution you want, but i saw a women the other day with a motorcycle helmet on while she rode her bike. it completely surrounded her head and face. i'd imagine you could use a headset and filter out wind noise that way. you'll look stupid of course, but you'll be able to talk and be incredibly safe at the same time. :)

Thanks for the link, I'll check there. However, since my question is specific to bicycling it's still ok that I posted it here right?

I did a cursory search and I don't find anything which means having to create another account on yet another forum only to ask one simple question. It would seem that BikeForums.net would still be an appropriate place.

Or am I wrong? :(

Bikeforums is good place to ask BUT howard forums is a mobile phone forum. The largest mobile forum. You are looking for a headset with noise cancelling features and bluetooth. That would be the place to ask for specific features. Tell them you bike, so they'll find you something small at the same time.

Cool. Thanks WorldIRC. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something against forum policy or something since I see that you're a Mod.

Thanks for clearing that up.

Nah.. the Foo is general chat anyways -- you could have also put this in General Cycling Discussion as well. I'm just recommending you ask on the other forum as it is specialized to mobile phones and they could probably help you a little better.

I saw where you posted your question on Howardforums. Post it in the lounge -- you'll get a million more results that way.
