I have been looking around and posted couple of oppinion questions here, did not get back any but one reply on this bike at bikesdirect for 859.95

So I guess I am going to get this one unless someone tells me that I can spend my money on a better bike and tell me where I can get it.

Thanks

Yes, please tell us your opinions after you get the bike.

For what it's worth, did you look at any of the bikes on www.ibexbikes.com?

bikesdirect.com are supposed to become rather unresponsive after they've sent you the bike and gotten paid. however i have a close friend who got the steel/ultegra Motobecane Legacy Pro from them and he's very satisfied with the bike and the value. i think that bike may be a better deal than the one you're looking at but it's also $1095 and there are only a few sizes left too so it's probably not an option.

i just got a steel/ultegra bike from http://www.gvhbikes.com but it won't ship until next monday so i can't praise it yet (and again it's not considerably more than the $860 shipped pricetag).

only thing i can think is that it might be good to get the Fuji Roubaix from a Performance instead because you have a real company to go to if there are problems and you get free tunes forever.

probably fine either way though.

Good thinking boze;

I do not see Fuji on Performance site, you are talking about a store then it is too far to me, I live in Saint Cloud, Minnesota, noen around here. I see terrino rezza 3.0 on the site though, it is comparably priced but I think we have the same problem with this one, no real company to go to once a problem arises. By the way what do you think about Tirreno on performace site compared to Mercier.

Thanks

I like the ibex 5500 on that site, do you have anything to say about ibex, the bike looks awsome.

ah, sorry about that - i live in the DC area where there are three or four retail Performance stores so I forget that as chains go they're not to widespread. and yes, strangely they only sell the Fuji and other non-performance bikes at the stores, not online.

i never paid much attention to the Performance-branded Razza bikes, but that's just because none of them are available in a 63 or 64cm.

I don't have an Ibex bike, but I would definitely consider them. Search these forums and do a Google for Ibex to get other people's opinions. I've had some e-mail exchanges with Jack (manager/owner?/guy-in-charge) and even a lengthy phone call. He's given me very complete answers and was quick to respond, too.

Fuji does not allow their bikes to be sold online. They must be purchased from a brick & mortar store. I imagine it is their way of trying to ensure that anyone that is riding a Fuji is fit to the bike.

This is true of most major brands although the reason probably has more to do with protecting their dealer network than making sure the customer is fitted. This is true of many specialized products traditionally supported by local dealers. Many high-end stereo equipment manufacturers won't allow their products to be sold over the internet.

The internet has become a huge threat to these traditional business models and the bicycle industry is no exception.

I bought a Steel Mercier Serpens, all ultegra and I am completley satisfied, under 20 pds and a great ride. I got mine on line from sportymama on ebay she sells alot of these and is great to talk to and ask questions. Mine was about 1030.00. I would highly recommend Mercier if all are like mine.

I have a 2003 IBEX Corrida. Love it! I have about 3000 miles on it so far with no problems. Customer service is excellent. If you have any questions before-hand (or after-hand) give them a call.

My guess is that bikesdirect got old frames and that somehow those don't fall under Fuji's "not for mail order" agreements. The Fuji Finest that bikesdirect has listed is the 2002 frame. Further, I suspect the reason that halfspeed listed is most likely the correct one.

If you read the fine print on their eBay ad it says the Fuji bikes can only be picked up at one of their locations and they wont ship them.

This really is good for the little guy and no doubt better for us the riders IMO. I bought my Marin from the LBS that I have bought bikes from since about 1988 but they have moved several time to smaller and smaller locations and now supliment bike sales with other totally unrelated services.

hi, 1030 is not less then 859.95, if you get it put together by a delaer then it will be another 75-100 bucks, but that is all, I am leaning towards paying another 3-4 hundred bucks at the LBS and get one that I feel comfoprtable with.

Thanks

Not to mention like another $75 in shipping. Between the shipping and the assembly cost I decided to stop looking at bikes online and just focus on what the LBS had. In the end I got a great deal and didn't have to go in to one of them with a bike in a box kit for them to build for me.

I was looking at bikes online until I decided I wanted to ride it first, & bought my TCR.

My question is, why don't they fire the one's that keep putting the wrong details on the bikes, hahahah. That always seems to be the the reason bikesdirect gives that they can offer such a good deal.

The cost for shipping my IBEX was $35. As far as assembly, it took about 20 minutes. Removed it from the box, bolted the handlebars on, put on the front wheel, put the saddle on, pumped up the tires, installed the pedals, and I was good to go. It was easier to assemble than the pos Magna that I had before I got a good bike.

Hey HK,

I bought my Mercier Aquila AL from bikesdirect.com in late June.

$625.00 flat no shipping. Another $30.00 from the LBS to do the final assy'
and adjustments. I like the bike, and am very happy with the deal I received.

The bike is performing well after 200 plus miles.
I had to deal with bikesdirect after I received it and they were very quick to respond and helpful.

The only complaint I have is that the stock rubber wears out fairly quick, but I just purchased
some new tires from nashbar - conti's ultra 2000's 14 bucks apiece.

I recommend buying from bikesdirect.com

Good luck.
