Far after hitting the fan...the initial impact has passed and the shattered result is flying right at you. In a world that takes good things (skateboarding) and markets them as eXtreme and turns the Ramones into an aerobics routine (with attitude!) I ask you fine people is nothing sacred? Actually, nevermind I already know the answer. $$$ :(

Whats next, the Depeche Mode Aerobics video, comes with your own leather miniskirt designed by Martin Gore? Pump to tunes like "little 15" and "never let me down" and who can forget "Personal Jesus"?

this is why you can't get too attached to music from your youth....someone eventually will exploit it for easy money. look at all the music from the 70's used in commercials now, it's just sad.

I thought along the same lines when I heard Johnny Cash was going to sing Personal Jesus or "Hurt" by NIN.
But when I heard it, it felt like the world had stopped.
I saw this at a Borders in the burbs. A couple of punk rock/alt rock underground celebrity types showing you how work off your beer gut so your emo t-shirts fit well and tone your thighs so they look good in your ripped up punk rock tights. If it was just a zine, I think it could've been cool. But the B&W zine format bound into a formal book & being sold at freakin' Borders was a little too much for me to handle.
Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore declaring "it's not the poundage so much as the roundage that I have a problem with."
The woman that wrote this book did the cover art for the Dinosaur Jr. record "You're Living All Over Me" which is one of my favorite records of all time.
But, yeah, this is really stupid.
]so you don't like your copy anymore?
You really should get a copy. You can throw somes quotes in next to those Wordsworth and Kafka fools. There is however one caveat. I tried to mix this up with my yoga routine...YOUCH! Yoga mats, Screaching Weasel, and nipple rings do NOT mix well. Take that to the vet.

Johnny treated the songs with respect and added his own "color" to them. I have a special fondness for Johnny Cash. I even like hearing him sing, "the first time ever I saw your face." :)
Personally I like the World Famous Pontani Sisters Go-Go Robics (http://www.daddyogrande.com/pontani/ggrtrailer.mov).

I saw it on tv or something, it was a chick with dyed hair and some nice piercings teaching 40 year old woman from the white picket fence burbs to lose weight and they threw in some decent music for once but it's dead now, PUNK ROCK IS OFFICIALLY DEAD

I like "Sam Hall"...
Well, my name it is Sam Hall, Sam Hall.
Yes, my name it is Sam Hall; it is Sam Hall.
My name it is Sam Hall an' I hate you, one and all.
An' I hate you, one and all:
Damn your eyes.
I killed a man, they said; so they said.
I killed a man, they said; so they said.
I killed a man, they said an' I smashed in his head.
An' I left him layin' dead,
Damn his eyes.
But a-swingin', I must go; I must go.
A-swingin', I must go; I must go.
A-swingin', I must go while you critters down below,
Yell up: "Sam, I told you so."
Well, damn your eyes!
Instrumental break.
I saw Molly in the crowd; in the crowd.
I saw Molly in the crowd; in the crowd.
I saw Molly in the crowd an' I hollered, right out loud:
" Hey there Molly, ain't you proud?
" Damn your eyes."
Then the Sherriff, he came to; he came to.
Ah, yeah, the Sherriff, he came to; he came to.
The Sherriff, he come to an he said: "Sam, how are you?"
An I said: "Well, Sherriff, how are you,
" Damn your eyes."
My name is Samuel, Samuel.
My name is Samuel, Samuel.
My name is Samuel, an' I'll see you all in hell.
An' I'll see you all in hell,
Damn your eyes.

Wow, kewl.
You can download the video to HURT also, has anyone seen it?
Another good one is "Delia's gone"
i like long black veil a lot. its so sad.
Ten years ago, on a cold dark night
Someone was killed, 'neath the town hall light
There were few at the scene, but they all agreed
That the slayer who ran, looked a lot like me
The judge said son, what is your alibi
If you were somewhere else, then you won't have to die
I spoke not a word, thou it meant my life
For I'd been in the arms of my best friend's wife
Chorus
She walks these hills in a long black veil
She visits my grave when the night winds wail
Nobody knows, nobody sees
Nobody knows but me
Oh, the scaffold is high and eternity's near
She stood in the crowd and shed not a tear
But late at night, when the north wind blows
In a long black veil, she cries ov're my bones
Repeat Chorus
I like my dad's version better, for some reason...
There's a long tradition of covers in country music, though - probably has something to do with evolving from out of 'common' music where everyone knew the tunes. Also probably the fact that there didn't used to really be the idea of popular recording artists writing their own lyrics didn't really exist until rock and roll came around (yeah there was jazz and blues, but even then they did do a lot of covers too).
I know from personal experience taking someone elses song and playing it with enough of the original there that people can remember it, but with enough of yourself so that it's not really the same song usually is a hit with the listener - that's where a lot of my 5-10$ tips came from when I played street corners. People loved Paint it Back really really fast and acoustic... My favorite version of that song was a fingerpicker I saw back in MT who took it from the original, to a 16th century bard style, to flamenco, to blues, then back to the original. I could hear every word even though he didn't sing!
As long as we're discussing sell-outs, how about "Pesonal Jesus" for Pizza Hut? I can hear Depressed Mode singing "your own...personal...pizza"
Fer chrissakes, where have you all been? Punk's been dead since, like, '79. They're as bad as the hippie posers.

Holy Crap. I'd buy that for a dollar!
I didn't know that dance move was called the Courtney Cox (I guess from the Springsteen video).
