Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - How much tread-wear is too much tread wear?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Any handy tips for assessing if you need new tires? One section on my back tire is looking pretty...tired, but I don't know how much life it has left in it. Thanks.
If you get a flat due to the lack of rubber then you know you need new meats.
Start carrying a couple of extra tubes. Then when you get to the point that there's more than 3 flats a week, new tires.
That's how I tell - don't know if it's good or not.

I just replaced my rear conti gatorskin because it showed threads in about 5 different places. I think it could actually last longer bc when you look at it from the inside it was perfect...
I have a computer dealie on my bike and I got about 800 miles on the rear tire. I run a fixed gear no brakes. I don't lock up alot but I do skip hear and there for brake checks.
Kind of just to slow me down if I don't really trust somebody.
Uh.... I kind of think of it as one of my little superpowers when I ride.

When the tire starts getting flat in the middle look for the casing(It will look like striping in the rubber) to show. Change it now and save a flat, better than getting an extra 50 out of the tire. If you see cotton, it is really time.
I rode home on silk once when I was running tubulars...

If you look at your tire and you realize you're actually riding directly on the innertube, it's time to part ways with it.
