Foo - Shoveling during a long snow storm.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Shovel a few times during or wait until it ends and do it all at once?
During. Stuff gets heavy when you wait. I'm currently waiting for the 6-12" that is supposed to start soon and end tomorrow night.

apparently "it" = "snow".
We're in the midst of an 8-12" that started last night and is going to end tomorrow night. It's not snowing hard, it's just going all weekend long.

Just consider it cross training. I still have a snow blower from living in the mountains. Where should I send it? We don't fire it up much here in the desert.

During. It's easier to move a couple of inches of snow rather than a foot of snow.
Not much, what's snow with you :notamused:

Shoveling 3/4 of an inch of heavy wet snow off of your driveway 4 or 5 times in as many hours
may be tiring but it sure beats the hell out of trying to shovel 4 or so inches of heavy wet back-
straining shovel-breaking snow off the drive once. If it's light dry fluffy powder I'll let it accumulate
'cuz I can bulldoze huge swaths clean easily with my widest shovel.
Generally I wait until the end, snow blow it off and then use a Stihl Power Broom to get the driveway and walks really clean.

Clear the sidewalk at some point. Your mailman will appreciate it, and you won't get as many frozen footprints stuck to the ground after you clear everything else.
if you get drifts, wait. if not, periodic snow removal is the way to go. And now for you listening pleasure a parody of The Cults - Love Removal Machine!

Send the kids out in rotating shifts. Send them all out at once, they will forget that they are slaves.

I'm disgusted at our lack of snow. The one year I buy a snowblower, and it doesn't snow. WTH???

Depends on the forecast after the snow...
Cold forecast means shovel the snow
Warm means don't touch it and let it all melt so you're not stuck with huge piles of snow for a few weeks.
Depends on whether or not you're a little girl. :P

2 big jobs or 1 really BIG job...
None.
You could get the snow removed AND melted in one go...

The snow was ridic today. It'd look like it was stopping, then would start right back up again. I think its still snowing now, actually.

The key is the right tool for the job, or a neighbor with the right tool. It is still coming down. I have a new snow weapon this year. I modified it to work New Years Day to work. The test run was yesterday & it worked well.

Sure, a guy puts a bigger blade on his snowplow, and now he thinks he owns the road

seeing as this is a cycling forum, I find it highly unlikely that anyone on here would die from shovelling snow.

Actually, I got a job promotion at work in 2007 because the previous guy died shovelling snow. Yes he biked ... but he also chain smoked.

Nice Mcgyver, Timber, but I wondering if the weight of the plow would cause damage to the pivots and pins of your loader due to the leverage of the plow. Therefore I haz great idea, using a modified skid steer mount and rigging to mount the plow in place of your bucket. There is a Ricthie Bros auction in March near you in Hartford Ct. that is showing that they will be selling some quikmounts and also dedicated snow buckets. Final result, more tool stuff which might make the job easier. Scroll down and the skid steer stuff shows up

I live in Texas. I find your stories strange and disturbing. All except the one with the crushed body. It made me feel at home, and the flamethrower added a nice touch.

This plow is small, I was looking for a 6' manual plow for that reason. The plow is about 300 lbs. I put more wt on my forks. I do know what your saying though. I am considering a SS tachall but then I have to deal with the bucket too. I will see what happens in the spring. This is working out very well though.

You could always tell the boss you're just going to look and get ideas when you go to the auction, whether she believes you or not is another ball game.
