Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Mr. Stormcrowe, what about a new "how to" subcategory in Singlespeed & Fixed Gear?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Can it be done? With all of the information in these forums one could write the most comprehensive bicycle guide/s ever written. On any given "how to" search bikeforums.net is usually within the top 10 posts. Why not start a "How To" forum (for singlespeed / fixed)? My thinking is that if you put the forum in place, users will write it up. This way redundant threads are minimized, & information is easier to find.

Just a thought. After all, the information is already out there.

No one would use it. That would be like having a thread titled "Fixed Gear/Single Speed - Start Here!". Besides, it would actually be counterproductive when it comes to generating revenue.

I can kind of understand the feelings of the newb, they want to be talked through everything rather than read some old stuff. Plus, you can't brag about the piece of junk you just got on craplist.org when you're just reading an old sticky, and where's the validation in that?

In my (own) opinion then, it would make a lot sense. After all, what is it we are all doing here? Or is it all just about socializing with sarcasm?

It wouldn't work, kfm. It's been tried here, there, everywhere and the newbies always fail to see the "Here's How You Do It" thread title every time. So they start yet another "How do I do skids?" thread; an avalanche of "USE THE SEARCH!!" responses comes crashing down on them, they get their panties in a twist, and someone finally directs them to something useful.

The humor of these threads must be lost on you but I for one, love them.

Yes, it is all about socializing with sarcasm.
