Introductions - Another noob from NM

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Howdy. Complete bike newbie here. I'm getting a Specialized Expedition Sport the day after tomorrow. I'm 46 and about 50-60 pounds overweight and really need to get some exercise. I haven't ridden a bicycle in about 15 years (hence the keg belly). I just found this forum and look forward to learning a lot from you guys.
Welcome to BikeForums.
Cycling and eating right will make a BIG difference in your weight.
I'm now 59 years old and when I got back into cycling in 2000 I weighed ~240 pounds.
The weight has been dropping steadily since and I've been in the 180s most of the summer. :D
In the recumbent world we call those "aerobellys". They help with streamlining and aerodynamics. Welcome to the forums! I just got back into cycling for health (and fun). In my case it was not for weight loss but for other factors. The other factors have improved significantly and I've lost a few pounds as well. My wife and I own property in McIntosh (Moriarty). What part of NM are you in?
'bent Brian, currently in Ohio

Sweet. It's been a long time since I've seen the 180's.

Welcome!
My sis lives in Ruidoso!
Join us (and several thousand others) for the Santa Fe Century next May.
A great ride. Make that your goal. (When I started biking 6 years back in 1998, I made my goal the Ride the Rockies - 353 miles of Colorado passes - for that year, and, by gosh, I did it!)
My wife and I did a part of it together this year. She is 66, I am 64.
For some pictures of the SFC in 2000, when I did the full century (100 miles in one day) by myself, see:
