I started out in the Women's Forum. Gather up information about buying the right bike. This forum is great and I'm on my way to live a healthier lifestyle. I am so very glad that I came here. I needed help and everyone here is so great.

I haven't bought the bike yet. Still looking. I went REI and they had nothing I was interested in. Any suggestions?

I'm not riding yet but I plan to as soon as I get a bike and in a little better shape. Mylordd35 are you from Nashville?

I live in Nashville and I originally purchased a Giant OCR 3 as a starter bike at Nashville Bicycle. It was an awesome starter bike! If you haven't been there, go in and talk to Jane. It is $599 and now has comes with a carbon fork.

I drove out to highway 96 in Franklin and would ride out there. I rode that route for about a year until I got into much better shape. I have now dropped 82 pounds, 11 inches, and am in the best shape of my life! I did it over 2 1/2 years. Once I started losing the weight it became more and more addictive. Now, I race and am into triathlon.

Message me anytime you have any questions!

Sorry for the delay in getting to you. I have been on vacation. I will definitely look into this bike today. I know the area where you ride. I live in Thompsons Station and there is less traffic out here so I will start out here and work my way into better health.

Thanks again.

you live in a good area for riding...dont forget the natchez trace parkway

as far as bike shops go

gran fondo is by far my favorite www.granfondocycles.com ... an upper end road bike store with excellent service and selection. they have some close out bikes at good prices

nashville bike has been mentioned ...a local chain.....they carry specialized, giant, cannondale.

allanti bikes in brentwood has very nice people. trek, waterford, fuji. hard to park at store though... they are reopening a venerable bike store in nashville (bike pedlar)

there is also cumberland transit...like a local owned rei.... trek and mtb type store

Dittos on Gran Fondo.....picked up a Merlin Solis about two weeks ago. It has Campy Chorus and it rocks....I live by Percy Warner Park area and ride out Old Natchez and in the parks alot...the hills in the parks are killer, but they do get you in shape

the natchez trace is like riding on glass....great roadway in the northern part with some nice hills. no stop signs or stoplights...and a really neat bridge over birdsong hollow. the ramp is "fun" but if the wind is blowing hard it is kind of spooky being 160 ft up inthe air

it is pretty ...especially in the fall . very little traffic except on weekends

my favorite rides are percy warner and old natchez/del rio and either head into franklin or to the parkway via cotton/old charlotte/96

One of my favorite rides is from second avenue, downtown, to natchez trace, via hwy 100, and back.

I made my selection and went to Franklin Bike (they also own Nashville Bike). Very nice lady who took the time to go over all of the bikes. We did a measurement and the bike has been order. They have to put it together and it should be ready this Saturday. I can't wait to get started. She said that since I'm a beginner that Giant Cypress ($327.00 was the total price) would be a good one to start out with, then graduate up to a lighter bike (they run from $899 to $6K).

I know all the places that you mentioned but I'm just a beginner. I hope to meet up with you all as soon as I become more fit. Thanks again for all of your advise and encouragement.
