Can I use a standard fixed sprocket on a BMX hub (not a flip-flop, the standard BMX freewheel hub) is the threading for a BMX freewheel the same as on a proper fixed hub??
I have an urge to stick three-spoke BMX mag wheels on a fixed Raleigh Twenty.
I have absolutely no idea, but um, why?
Also, on BMX, again, I don't know, but what would you do for a lockring? A fixed hub doesn't really do you much good without a lockring.
Maybe you could get someone to cut opposite threads for you with a tap and die kit?
"A fixed hub doesn't really do you much good without a lockring."
I've been riding fixed 15 years w/out a lockring.
I dunno - I've spun lockrings and cogs off before... now I do it with no brakes... No chance in hell I'd ride without a lockring that I knew was going to keep my cog on there. Do you ride w/both brakes or something? What do you use to keep it secure? Or is it an old-skool of the bolted cog? I know that any cog I put on would come off when I backpedalled if I didn't make sure it was really on there and had a lockring against it...
Wait - I got it - you never stop!
No bolts, no BB ring, no loc-tite; I backpedal plenty, and I've never spun off a cog.
I DO run a front brake, but really only use it for panics (why skid when a brake works oh-so well?)

Most fixed/free flip flop hubs allow for a freewheel installation on the free side, hence the fixed/free description. Thus, you can thread a fixed cog onto a freewheel BMX hub. I'm running a fixed cog with a BB lock ring and Loctite with no problems and am planning on doing the same with another NOS 27" wheel I have until I buy me a new fixed rear hub for my Mavic Open Pro rim.
