well the girlfriend and i are moving to either denver or boulder very soon and i am wondering what they best bike clubs are in the area for road racing. ive looked on usacycling alot and there are so many resigstered clubs, but some are expired, old, or too small.

also are there any colorado specific websites that show all the races in the state?

i just got used to all the websites and waht not for here in illinois and now have to find all the infastructe and support all over again in CO.

note, ill race anything: hillclimb, crit, etc etc

also would love a lcub with a weekly group ride and or training crit

I am not sure how up to date it is, but I searched and found this. It looks pretty good, based on my local awareness of clubs.

I have friends who race for Bicycle Colorado and most shops have teams too. You can't throw a water bottle without hitting a bike shop around here.

Good luck with your move.

^ACA will most likely release the 2010 schedule in a few weeks.^

There'll most likely be a series of training crits in March

... go to http://www.americancycling.org/results . The race results will give you a bunch of team names that you can research further and find out what they do for training and group rides. If you end up in Denver, there's the "Chatfield World's" (corner of Deer Creek and Wadsworth) on Sat. mornings at 10am for unregulated "races" that take place before the official season starts.

Tons of teams, rides and races in the Denver/Boulder area --- you'll like it.

I have never heard of the Chatfield Worlds, celticfrost.

Would the "Worlds" be happening tomorrow morning? Not that I can even pretend to be a part of it, but it would be interesting to see.

I know of the Thursday Night Championships at Meridian Business Park (I25/Lincoln down in the Ranch), but Chatfield Worlds would be interesting too. What's the loop?

celticfrost
01-08-10, 03:16 PM
Yes, The Worlds should be on for tomorrow. I'm not in any kind of shape right now to entertain thoughts of even sucking wheel at this hammerfest. And, even if I was, I'd be eating a ton of roadslop, grit, etc. based on current road conditions. Perhaps I'll be ready by Spring -- or not.

Thank you celticfrost. I actually can picture that as I rode that area last Sunday. And yep. For me, maybe by Spring of 2011.

awesome info , thanks guys.

also, anyone that could help the misses and i find some jobs or any leads would be greatly appreciated. I am obviously a finance guru (see signature...also work as a trade strategist for a private trading firm) and my girlfriend is a graphic designer/marketing coordinator (currently for a group of community banks)... seems its quite hard to"break onto the scene," many employers simply throw away out of state applications.

thanks in advance.

many employers simply throw away out of state applications..

That's an easy fix. A little backspace here, a little typing there. Make yours an in-state app. Find a random apartment building address and use it on your app, sans unit number, buy a trac fone with a 303 area code, and when they want to interview you, make sure it's a week in advance because you're a very busy man and all, and fly in. It may not be playing by the rules, but it will potentially put food on the table.

Between Englewood and Westminster is lots; it depends on your budget. to be close to her but in a good part of town check out the Highlands (west of downtown), Park Hill, Wash Park (like I said, I dunno your budget). Downtown has some cool stuff, if you like the urban lifestyle (Denver's is pretty good actually)

You want hammerfest? Head here (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=39.541845,-104.865704&sll=39.540736,-104.860854&sspn=0.008191,0.015922&ie=UTF8&ll=39.541845,-104.865704&spn=0.008191,0.015922&z=16) on Tuesdays/Thursdays. Ride starts at 6, the fastest hour I've spent on a bike....

Thanks, how is Arvada? heard that thats in the neighborhood. i would like to live in LoDo but dont know if i can afford. looking for something 600-750, utilities included.

Arvada is decent, but a commute down to Englewood would just wreck your day, I think. Lakewood is sort of in between, along with what superdex suggested.

i am finding some places that look decent in the capitol hill/alamo placita are, also looing in lakewood. will be moving in two weeks, the misses starts her job the 26 and im interviewing today for a position.

Thursday Night Championships at Meridian Business Park

is this an every week type of thing, where exactly is this (google maps coordinates?) that chatfield route looks nice too, where and when exactly is that?

If you're riding Meridian just make sure to wave to me on your way past, as I commute daily from the bottom of the steeper climb in the opposite direction.

Meridian is on the far south end of the city, but if you're anywhere near a light rail station it'll drop you off in the right place.

lakewood has great access to bicycling and would in middle I moved to SE Lakewood (southern gables) 5 yrs ago just above Bear Creek
I havent regretted choice. In general I'd say avoid part of lakewood near Colfax but the "glens" neighborhood North of Garrison and Colfax
and south of Crown Hill park Is a pleasure every time I ride thru it ... it seems to be filled with charm

Lakewood would be on the short list for my wife and I, 'cept we stayed in Highlands Ranch to be close to the Fam (within a few miles, babysitting is a cinch). It's a great spot, great access to mountain and road riding --Red Rocks, Green Mountain, Lookout, MUPs south to Chatfield, downtown and beyond. Your commute to Englewood would be aiight, and getting to the girl in Westminster would be only aiight too, but it's a great compromise....

superdex/anyone, thanks for all your help with neighborhoods. this misses seems pretty set on living in the thick of things, i.e. lakewood and other suburbs are out. she has latched onto the Uptown neighborhood. how is that? looks nice, sounds nice for the most part. she is lookin gnamely at this appt building/area... http://denver.craigslist.org/apa/1684658135.html, 1721 Humbodt street. its kinda by the hospital which worries me about noise and/or riff-raff floatin garound there...

UGASkiDawg

I don't blame her....I wouldn't live out in the burbs either. That area around Humboldt is in mixed area.....it is probably relatively nice right there but can get a little sketchy a few blocks south for a few blocks on either side of Colfax. I'd live there if I didn't have kids and own my home.

the post is gone, but 17th/Humboldt is okay, but skidawg is right, that area is a mixed bag, can be sketch within a block. 17th itself is a busy street, as is Park (like I'd be a little nervous riding on it; duck a block to 16th). There are lots of condo complexes around there, you'll have to see them for yourself. Also, that section of 17th (between Park and Lincoln) is all restaurants/bars (some of them are the 'alternative lifestyle' patronage and some are upscale post-college sportsbar with a white tablecloth variety). I dated a girl who lived in a condo on Marion right there, nice places.

If you have a chance to visit before pulling the trigger, I recommend it. Again, I'm with SkiDawg above, if I were single or a DINK I'd consider it....

--Oh, the commute from 17th/Park to Engelwood may frustrate you. You could bike it well enough, but getting from there to the freeway and south is kinda a pita. Driving it I would guess you'd head York/University to I25 then south. But if you're in the depths of Englewood (Broadway/Hampden) it'll kinda stink. Are you still going to be working in Englewood?

luckily, no. i renegotiated teh contract with the company i am currently with so i get a raise, go full time with them, and still work from home. score! the misses is trying to get a job as marketing coordinator at the childrens hospital right there, but currrently she WILL be commuting to westminster.

i am hearing the same thing from many sources, mixed all around d-town denver basically. we will be heading out there on the 21st to shop for appts, jsut wanted to get an idea of where just so we can fit as many as possible into the 2-3 days we plan on shopping..thanks guys

Children's hospital moved out to Aurora several years ago....it used to be right by that address but it has moved to a brand new facility. Still not very far and a much better commute than going to Westminster.

Check out the apartments at Ten Emerson St and in that area. My wife and lived at 10 Emerson for 2 years in the late 90's and loved it. Best location in Denver imho. North of Wash Park few blocks....south of Capital Hill a few blocks and right off the CC bike path to get out of town quickly.

looks like we may have narrowed it down to a single palce, Penwood Place apartments on 800 Penn if we go the denver route. we checked out boulder today and really liked it, am trying to find aprtmetsn thjere, but the vast majority seem to be geared toward college kids.

ANY BOULDER Apartment leads that you guys can provide? Please dont be shy. PM as well as that will go right through to my cell and i doubt ill get in front of a computer tomorrow.

thanks guys

The Boulder<->Denver downtown commute sucks. Like really sucks. Like enough to not live there if not working in Boulder/Westminster sucks.

The concept of living more than 5 miles from my office makes me shiver with fear. I live less than a half mile from work and hate my commute.

2005trek1200
04-24-10, 09:34 PM
understood and noted, although coming from chicago we know what a true commute is. try 1,5 hrs bumper to bumper each way. looks like we are rather set on the broomfield area, right on the cusp of westminster/broomfield at Warwick Station probably. more or less equadistant from downtown dener, downtown boulder, and golden-so it more or less satisfies all our needs (mountain access for me on teh bike via straight into the foothills or a short drive to boulder or golden, running trails in our backyard for her, and not too far from any of the nightlife in boulder or denver sould we want to hit that up.)

have one or two spots to look at tomorrow then we have to starts writing checks as living in a hotel and eating out every damn day is eating into the budget.

2005trek1200

decided. live on the broomfield/westminster border now. at AMLI at Westcliff, new, nice apartments. really quiet so far and i can walk out the front door, hop on wadworth to canyon creek road and be climbing within 30 mins roughly. thumbs up.

now that ive had a few weeks to get the lay of the land, i want to announce that PSIMET is looking to develop a Colorado based sister team and is currently looking for new recruits. if you race consistently, attached or unattached, and would like a little more information, or just want to hook up with the group for group rides you can post up here and/or PM me.

many of you know Rob, Psimet2001, here on BF, and are familiar with the awesome wheels he builds. he recently started a team in the mid-west, where i used to live, and now, given that i moved out west, we are takin gthe opportunity to develop a sister team here.
