Commuting - Salsa La Cruz Ti?

Anyone know anything more (http://nccyclery.wordpress.com/2009/12/10/salsa-cycles-introduces-ti-for-2010/) about the complete bike?

Agree, but it does say "La Cruz" on the top tube. Faint, but you can read it.

Could be that the disc-cross thing wasn't working for them. Too bad - the old La Cruz is just about the ideal bike for me, but a little too expensive to justify.

Good point-- maybe they're switching the brakes up.

I have a La Cruz and LOVE IT-- the perfect commuter bike!

I would be very interested in a La Cruz with canti brakes rather than discs, and a ti frame would make it even more appealing.

I don't see why everyone's getting so worked up over these Ti frames.

It's a Ti cyclocross frame. They've existed forever. I like Salsa and all, but I don't see that they're bringing anything new to the table here. There's both cheaper frames and better frames on the market already.

I also scratch my head at their desire to be 5-6 months off of the release schedule of the entire bicycle industry - then try to be all secretive about everything. They'd be better received if they would actually talk about this stuff instead of maintaining a worthless blog.

I mean, they let a pre-production Vaya make it into a distributor catalog and act concerned that people might jump to conclusions and criticize... well duh.

Really? A La Cruz without disks is just a plain cyclocross bike. There's absolutely nothing special about it.

It's one thing if you're asking for something special, but it bugs me a little to hear you advocating (several times now) for a unique/specialty bike to be dumbed down or changed into something that already exists. Anyway... it's already been decided at this point.

The spirit of the La Cruz lives on in the Vaya... with it's rediculously sloping top-tube - ala-Fargo. I'm sure many will be rejoicing. Me? I'm fully grown and think super-sloping tubes are stupid.

My needs are obviously different than yours, but I don't see canti brakes as a "dumb down" from discs. Disc brakes are totally unnecessary for many riders, and they add more weight and expense. It also seems that disc are becoming more and more common, while it is becoming harder to find a simple cross/commuting/touring frame with canti brakes. I can see the advantage to discs if you live in an area with lots of rain, sleet, snow but Raleigh, NC, isn't that. Another issue is that if you have several bikes and would like the option to swap wheels, you can't do that with a disc wheels if your other bikes have caliper or canti brakes.

BTW, show me some other cross frames with geometries and prices comparable to the La Cruz that have canti brakes. I haven't found one, except perhaps the Pake C'Mute. Most other cross bikes (eg, Surly and Soma) have much shorter head tubes and longer top tubes than the Salsa.
