Winter Cycling - Who uses NEOS's.

I'm thinking about getting a pair of NEOS Navigator 5. And was wondering who likes them and will they keep my toes from freezing in below zero stuff.

I have a pair, I haven't needed to use them yet. I have, however heard good things about them. They are used by Pedal People (http://www.pedalpeople.com/index.php?page=47), a human powered delivery and hauling service in Massachusetts.

I've looked at the Neos overshoe on Campmoor. They are on my list.

PURCHASED THE NEOS EXPEDITION BOOTS. After trying out several styles of boots from THE NORTH FACE to LL BEAN. Neither one could pass the 10 degree test much less the 0f test. So I went with my last resort and bought the NEOS Expeditons’. I’m glad I did. Despite they’re bulkiness and excess weight. They work. In 10 degree weather, these things kept my feet nice and toasty during my 55 min. commute. Hey, riding in extreme conditions requires extreme gear. The power grips that I switched to worked great to accommodate the NEOS’s. I feel the extra weight but the added warmth is worth it. The power grips make these things fit like clip-ons. I’m confident that they’ll work in sub-zero temperatures. The Snowsneakers fit inside them good and in the aftn I just bungee them to the porteur rack....I'll post pictures later to show you how they look.

I have my eye on a pair of the navigator 5 stabilicers.

Ordered 'em this morning, can't wait to put an end to foot-freeze and frozentoe.

I was going to go with the Navigator 5's, but changed my mind and went with the much lighter Expeditions. These things are big enough and you shave about 1.5 lbs with the Expeditions. Believe me you'll feel it.

Got the xxx-large size of the NEOS navigator 5 stabilicers. My size 10.5 Redwing workboots fit in them
perfectly. Wandered around the yard in the snow in them for a bit. Pretty good on the ice out in the far back yard.
Also kept my feet toasty while sitting in the garage drinking beer, a low-impact activity that usually results in
losing a lot of heat through the soles of my boots into the freezing concrete of the garage floor.
Next up is an actual on-bike test in anticipation of commuting in Monday's scheduled winter storm.

Where your at. I think the NEOS's will handle anything you throw at them.

They don't hinder riding at all, at least they didn't going around the block once and around the yard once.
The treads grab my platform pedals quite well. It's blizzarding right now, should be an interesting ride
when i leave at 4AM.

They work great, my feet are toasty and comfortable. It's like the wind doesn't exist
anymore as far as my feet are concerned, even in slushy slop. The little bit of extra weight is well
worth it to keep my toes warm and keep my commute enjoyable. The studs will scratch
glazed concrete easily, I've made my mark in the office at work.

I'd like to get a look at the pedal-mounted hardware on those homemade power grips, do you
have any close-ups?

I got the idea for the homemade powergrips from page 14 on the "Post your Winter bike pics." I was able to get the same straps from Home Depot. And I was able to use the same screws from my pedals.

Thanks for the info! I've found that the toe heel and strap area on the NEOS are perfect
locations for self adhesive reflectors.

Practically every one of them had Navigators on. Crossing creeks and walking in thigh deep snow in temps as low as -40.
I guess that that's proof enough, at least for me, that these things will work in the kind of subzero temps that we get.

I live in North Pole, Alaska and did the ItidaBike race some years ago. I ride to about -20F or so here and there. I use oversized biking shoes with thick socks and tape over the air holes until it gets too cold for that and then I put on the NEOS overboots. The aren't thick and insulated and they prevent me from clipping in but that's OK in the Winter. A good winter shoe might be better but the overboot makes things very versitile and is much less expensive than a good pair of winter riding shoes.
