My consumption of milk is season. I had no desire to drink it for 3 months, but for the past two weeks I have had the desire to drink a lot. By a lot I mean 1/2 gallon per day. Is this too much? Are there any imminent health risks associated with this much consumption?

I used to drink about 1/2 gallon a day when I was 16-20. Suffered no ill effects.

I drank a lot, not 1/2 gal per day, but I don't see a problem with it. You might just be low on protein and/or calcium.
Maybe if you force yourself to have at least 1 glass per day you won't have these feast/famine cycles?

Think about the strangeness of an adult drinking milk. Think about the extreme strangeness of an adult drinking the milk of a different species.

I don't consider it strange at all; I consider it to be a part of the food chain.

From some perspectives I suppose so, but nutritionally it's great...lots of protein, vitamins, minerals. It's an evolutionarily-selected form of nourishment for mammals.
The main drawback is it's high in fat, which you should progressively cut back on as you reach adulthood (and of course, plenty of folks these days should be cutting back on as children). It also raises blood sugar levels moderately, so if you have blood sugar issues drinking lots of milk probably isn't a good idea, and hard on-again/off-again binges might throw your body out of whack. The fat is why nutritionists recommend only 2-3 servings (1 cup/serving) per day for a 2000 calorie diet.
Putting aside comments about it being weird for an adult drinking milk, especially that of another species, I would say just see how it impacts your body. If your body can take it then there is probably little problem.
If you think you might be having some adverse effects, try avoiding it for a week or two and see if your health (headaches, skin etc)
I think milk is not good for you.

I do the same thing. Most of the time I never touch the stuff. Then every once in a while I'll go through a gallon in a couple of days. Don't know if I'd call it a craving, but for some reason I just want it.
I've always thought that my body tells me what it needs.

If you aren't mooing or growing udders, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
I've been drinking milk at around that pace for years. Besides occasionally getting off my bike to graze in some really nice looking fields I've had no problems.

Only thing make sure you drink lots of water too. I drank a lot of milk as a kid and around 8 or 9 i had calcium crystals building up in my bladder and breaking off. Dr. told me I had to cut back on my milk and drink more water.

There really is no need to adults to drink milk and many adults find themselves developing a lactose allergy. That said, I assume you are drinking non-fat milk otherwise you are consuming way too much fat and calories. Another issue to think about is what type of milk are you drinking? Hopefully organic... too much milk nowadays has hormones in it... ever wonder why alot guys now have man boobs? It may be the milk!

It does for me. One of the many reasons why I don't eat dairy. I really don't want that extra cup size.
Man boobs make me self sufficient.

Milk=bad. If you're going to drink it go organic for sure......too many growth hormones and antibiotics.....not to mention a gallon of bleach here or there to hide pus. My dad drove a milk tanker for a few years and you don't want to see what's at the bottom of those tanks. The truth is....the milk industry is good at controlling its image and hiding the truth. There's plenty of good info out there if you are willing to admit that science has advanced.

Interesting.
Explains why my lactose intolerant friend has such a flat chest. Nevermind she can't eat anything regular humans can.

Man - I thought of that too - how long has it been to dunk a great cookie into an ice cold class of milk ... yum!

A doctor once told me to cut dairy from my diet and I'd lose 10 pounds in a year.
Never found out if it was true.

Well I drank another 1/2 gallon today. To my knowledge, my 20.5 year old body is coping just fine. I guess I wont worry about it.
As for beer, I'm on a hiatus while I'm home from school :).

Milk, cheese , dairy products are our downfall.. We'd rather eat cheese than ice cream.. Wish I could limit milk to no more than 2 glasses a day , even if it is 1%.
