How about a closed car dealership? The ones in Contra Costa still have their lots lit up.

Closed as in not open at the moment, or as in out of business? If they are out of business, why are the lights on? Around here, they may have empty lot space when closed for the night, but they tend to get touchy about things flying around near their shiny cars and often have a security go-kart to remove people.

Closed meaning out of business. I don't know why the lights are on *shrugs*. I just noticed it and took my kid out for driver's training after an evening basketball game one night.

This is the same state that seems to always have electrical shortages right?

Hmm, there are a ton of empty office buildings near my house in Sunnyvale. Some of them do indeed leave the lights on in the parking lot.

??? I don't know about electrical shortages. Do you mean blackouts? The only blackout I remember was at least 6 years ago (before I was a member here) and that was an announced grid blackout that lasted about 45 mins IIRC. So we had plenty of time to be ready for that. It was to conserve energy I believe.
As a matter of fact, prices went down lately. I even started a thread (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?606703-Smart-meter&highlight=Smart+meter)about it.

I have some relatives out there that are (somewhere in California, not sure where) always (well, when I see them once a year) talking about brownouts and high utility costs where they are. I'm glad it's not as much of an issue as I thought it was.

Start at Java and Borregas near NetApp and work from there. You can not swing a dead hamster without hitting a vacant parking lot... or parking structure, and those are lit up pretty well.
Also, there used to be a bunch of guys who played roller hockey over near Duane and Fair Oaks somewhere. I knew a guy who played with them, but this was back in 02-03.

This is the same state that seems to always have electrical shortages right? There was actually no shortage, but an Enron scam to hike up the price of utilities. Remember? Some lackeys got caught on tape laughing as they shut off power to various parts of the grid? Enron indicted, VPs have "accidents", etc... as 8-billion public dollars disappears.
