The dust bowl of the thirties, where the farmers plowed up the thin, ecosystem sustaining topsoil, resulting in 10 years of mega dust storms, choking the life from everything. If it happened today, the right wing pundits would deny it's very existance, blaming it as a scare tactic of their political enemies.
