Commuting - New Handle bar choice for my Cross Check.

I am thinking about switching handle bars on my Cross Check. I currently rock really wide drops with Ultegra Flight decks. I am leaning towards the mountain drop bars like Midge or Wtb. Also, I was thinking about cruiser bars, but I need some suggestions. If I go with cruiser bars, I will get downtube shifters and sell the flight decks. Any pics would go a long way.

For my touring bike, though it is an FCR, Giant not a Surley - I chose simply based on cost and some advice. The Shimano bar end shifters, Which was an awesome choice, tektro RL520 long pull brake levers for Vbrakes and I chose Easton EA70 Ergo Wing with Easton EA70 stem because they both were on sale, I have been watching, and match my bike. here is how it came out.

I forgot to mention total cost of about 160 dollars including cable, tape, housings, and shipping.

What do you not like about the bars you have?

Had the Albatross handlebar on my CrossCheck- worked best for me when the outboard ends were pointed up slightly.

I love the current wave of shallow drop bars. I've used the Bontrager Race X Light and one from FSA I don't know the name of. I like that both these bars are really flat from the tops to the brake levers, leading to all day comfort. One thing I'm still not sold on for the FSA bars is the flattened tops, which make it a little hard to comfortably hook thumbs around on sketchier sections, but it is probably better for the hands the rest of the time -- the Bontragers are essentially round throughout.

What do you not like about the bars you have?

I just want to try a different riding style.

I have Mustache bars on my commuter right now, but while they are nice, and I like the width, I can't say I really prefer them to normal drops. Also, it's a singlespeed. I don't think moustache bars would play very well with your shifters, especially if you're trying to dump a lot of gears on the upshift.

My two favorite drop bars are the rithcey biomax and Salsa Bell Lap. Both come in pretty wide sizes if you like. The biomax have a short drop and reach and ergo bend, but no flare. The bell laps have a lot more drop but have the flare. Overall I prefer the biomax for strictly road use, and thats what is going on the new commuter I'm building.

Just my opinions, bar choice is one of those very personal things.

shallower and wider than the previous drops, but deeper and much narrower than dirt drops, and I like that flare on the drops to get some angle into my wrists. I lowered the stem to lower the bottom of the drops back to the height of the previous bars.

True, the Albatross is not as aero as drops. I put cloth tape on my Albatross, starting at the stem and running about 10 cm on each side.
This was my Albatross "drop" position- it worked pretty well and still gave the upright position for watching traffic and other sites.

I am really digging the bars on my Schwinn Traveler. They are like the nitto types.

Nitto Noodle. The noodly bits make for many wrist-hand-elbow angle options. The drops are a little cramped. Mine are 48 (or maybe 46, I can't quite 'member. Some of my bars are 48, some are 46). Anyway. I like them and the engraved bits at the top are pretty.

You're right, I just noticed. But that's still very little sweep.

It's quite a lot when you use them, and more than most bars have other than the dirt drop types.

Salsa just came out with a new bar called the "Woodchipper." It's a big wider (more flare) and a more shallow than the Salsa Bell Lap (which is what I currently use). I'm thinking about moving to these eventually.
