I'm confused!! I am looking to buy a new bike and I'm stuck between the Jamis Nova
(Tiagra components, Mavic MA3 rims, Cyclocross bike)
and the Coda Elite
(105 Components, Except Ritchey hubs and Ritchey aero pro Deep section rims, Hybrid bike)

I'd have to upgrade the Coda to ritchey drop bars and 105 shifters to get the road style fit. Price diff is about 200 more for the Coda with the different bars and shifters. I guess I'm asking if the mavic rims and tiagra hubs are better for a large rider. This would be mostly a commuter bike, with the occasional weekend tour.

Also the frame geometry is different, but only slightly, and I'm clueless as to the difference that would make.

Get the Nova! It's got tighter geometry, much more performance oriented ride. Already comes with drop bars which you prefer. Better parts and yes, the Mavics look sturdier, a few more spokes which is nice and the MA3 held up well for me 200lbs. and 100+ city miles per week.

The disc brakes look cool (stops good even wet and saves rims), but they will get in the way of your rack.
