I'm so excited to be back to living car free. I was on the bike for about 4 years, then bought a car, sold the car after 2.5 yrs., fixed the bike up and will be pedaling everywhere again starting Wed!

Glad to be back checking out this forum also.

cheers,

Gabe

Awesome! Welcome back!

What do you ride?

Car-free is SO liberating, it's like taking off handcuffs.

DX Man,

I ride a Trek 4300. I just bought a bunch of new stuff for the bike: 2 new armadillo nimbus 1.5 tires, Ortlieb rear panniers, new chain, cassette, and bottom bracket, a pair of butterfly handlebars, a Marmot Precip jacket, some arm warmers, new reflector stickers, and a Polartec baselayer for the upper body.

Gabe, what made you decide to sell the car and get back on your bike?

Welcome back! the first couple months might be challenging, while you're getting back in shape and relearning the logistics. After that it should be a piece of cake.

God damn, I just rode 2.3 miles in 32 degree weather and my lungs feel like they are collapsing and my legs can feel it. I used to ride those 2.3 miles without even noticing it!!!! Ahhhhhh..... how the hell did I ever ride from Raleigh NC to the Smoky Mountains and back with 30 lbs of gear!

But ya know what....it felt great to be BACK!!!!

Yes, Congratulations on getting back to the good life.

I'm looking at relocating to warmer climate and plan on losing the car thing myself.

It's only been a few days since I have been back on the bike. Oh man oh man, how good it feels!! It is almost like falling in love again, seriously, to all motorists out there that would probably make no sense but I think y'all might know what I am talking about: the wind in the face, the sound the tire makes on the pavement as you round the corner, enjoying the ride home from work while the mindless motorists sit in there cars caged in, oh... I could go on and on.

I am completely amazed how quickly my body has responded to the riding. I would estimate that I am at about 80% of where I was. I have Thurs-Sunday off and plan to do about 30 miles avg those days. I think after that I will be back to where I was. I mostly notice a lack of stamina on the hills, I am in Raleigh NC, it's not too hilly, but the hills do exist.

adios amigos
