Hybrid Bicycles - Thank you Craigslist! (2010 Sirrus!)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So apparently The Ellen Show gave away a bunch of coupons for the 2010 Specialized Sirrus. I had fallen head over heels for the 09 Sirrus, but it was just too far out of my price range (hey, I'm a starving college kid), so I had settled for putting off getting a bike again until at least the summer. Then I saw a bunch of people selling off these coupons on Craigslist, all of them asking for about $450. I sent out three emails offering $250 for it, and tonight I got a call back from one of them and tomorrow night I will get to put in my order for it! We are meeting at a bike shop so they can tell me if it's legitimate so I don't get screwed over before I hang over the money. I'm so excited!! This is the first new bike I'll be riding on since I got one for my 13th birthday, and it reminds me a lot of the Specialized Hard Rock (with slick tires) I bought used and rode (and fell in love with) while studying abroad in London last Spring. I haven't been able to ride since the summer, when I owned a fixie for awhile since it was the only thing I could find for 50 bucks...sold it off for 225 when I needed to pay tuition. I just wanted to share my excitement with y'all, and also ask if there is anything I should know about the bike? I've heard some comments about the pedals being sub par, but I don't recall exactly what thread it was in and I can't seem to find it again. I actually haven't had a chance to ride the 2010, but I rode the 09 and the guy in the shop told me they are extremely similar rides. Anyway, I hope all y'all are having a great new year and I'm SO EXCITED TO RIDE AGAIN!! :)

haha, thanks. I'm think what I'm gonna do is get the front and back wheels bolted and then just u-lock the back wheel and the frame with a cable going through the front wheel. That's what I did in London and I hope it holds up here too.

I would highly recommend a nice lock as well! I just got rid of my Kryptonite Chain and bought a NYFU U Lock and I think its the greatest thing since sliced bread. Super tough and fairly light being that its the best and most secure bike lock you can get in the U.S.

Am I right in assuming that you mean you're going to get rid of the QRs and use standard axles and bolts? I think that's a good idea but you may want to take it one step further and get some locking skewers.

I'm not 100% sure what exactly it's called, but the guy at my LBS described them as bolts with a pentagon shaped key (?). I think that's what he said. Is that what locking skewers are? But yes, either way I'm getting rid of the QRs for sure.
