OK, so I've tried several brands with varying results for comfort. The best so far were the Performance Century, I'll wear them for a century. And the worst were from Pearl Izumi, I'll only wear them for a short ride.
I'll be investing in a new pair shortly - is there anything out there that is really comfortable, but cost effective?

I kinda like my $50 voler's (www.velowear.com). I know others on this board swear by them, so I gave them a shot recently and have been pleasently surprised. It's an inexpensive experiment.
I have to agree with the PI's. Any hint of rain and I chafe like mad in my attack bibs.

So far, I'm liking my $99 Santini bibs. I'm still looking for "the" bib though. I'm going to try Exte Ondo next and if that fails, I may have to see what all the fuss is about with Assos or maybe Castelli. I tried a pair of Performance shorts and hated them - no reason to think that I'll like the bibs any better. The Voler shorts I have are relegated to trainer duty only. It's so personal though as others love the Performance shorts/bibs and Voler too (which are better than Performance in my opinion).

I get Nalini bibs from German ebay. www.ebay.de I usually do one order a year for me and my pals. About 35.00 per pair, 38.00 for tights that retail here for over $100.00 the shipping charges are a *****, but we split it evenly, and its still less than $40.00 per pair. They are good shorts, basic black, no flash, good chamois, and easy on the wallet.

Which ones? The Nalini Base Bibs can be had for $50 here. I'm going to the UK next month and if they are that much cheaper may get a pair or two to try out.

G'day,
dunno if you get 'em in the states or not, but, 'Gist', an Italian Brand are very good. retail about $130 AU here, which would make them around $95 USD.
cheers,

I think they are the base bibs, I didn't realize I could get them here for $50.00....
I have found the tights for 100 to 120, so I know those are a good deal, the problem is, how many pairs of tights to i really need you know?

Assos Mille's on sale. Keep an eye out, it happens and they can be had for as little as $120.
I strongly recommend the 10 Panel bib shorts from Cannondale on sale at Nashbar right now. the panels are cut reaalllly nice and are more comfy than my Castelli and just as good as my Assos bibs. I can't get over how good they are, and on top of that you can apply the discount. I'm getting another pair.
I have 8 pairs of bibs. The Voler (http://www.velowear.com/store/products.asp?dept=1020) bibs are ok but I really like my Etxe Ondo (http://www.bicyclinghub.com/bicyclinghub/etonmabi.html) bibs.

You've bought from "euromike" before?
I think I'm addicted to bibshorts!! ;)
I've got a pair of Nalini bibs which would be super comfortable except that the shoulder straps are a little short and they aren't that stretchy. I always feel a bit compressed. My other pair of bibs are PI Ultrasensors and I find them to be extremely comfortable. I may have to experiment with Volers too, as I've seen many positive reviews on BF and the price is right.
I forgot to add that the Cannondales have really neat mesh straps and back, nice and "breezy"

Hincapie's stuff. Everyone I know who's gotten it loves it. As soon as I can free up $130 I'm buying some bibs. Plus, it's always good to support the local boy...
