I have been training hard for a cycling vacation that is going to end with a century. I have been riding 6 days a week and anywhere from 260 to 330 miles a week. I am taking 1 day a week off of the bike. I have not had any soreness or any other problems except for a "twitchiness" towards the end of the rest day. This only happens during the rest day. No pain or cramping. Is there anything that would keep my legs from doing this, or is this part of the process and I should enjoy? I don't usually take any type of over the counter drugs so I would balk at those ideas. Cold soakings the last ride day? Warm towels on the rest day. The day I get back on the bike the twitchy stuff goes away. Interesting (for me) phenomenom.

1.5 IU of Human growth Hormone, injected subcutaneously every other day. Don't worry, its not over the counter.

Seriously though. What do you mean by "twitchiness" do you mean those little muscle spasms like horses use to keep the flies off?

It's almost like a restlessnes. My legs need to keep moving. I have trouble sitting without moving my legs around. The real cure seems to be to ride the next day. Maybe I'm not really whining about this. I'm mostly curious.

Totally normal. Wait 'til you do your first taper!

When you feel microspasms it's always a good idea to gently stretch, and remember to stay hydrated.

Could be Restless Leg Syndrome, but if you've never experienced it up until now, maybe it's not.

I have the understanding it is a symptom of dehydration

just go for a short recovery ride, say, 20-30 mins at an easy rate...
