Well, it has started. My bike (Trek 2100) has developed its first weird noise. It started last night (while climbing), and has progressed into being present when I'm only adding a little more power to my stroke. It sound like a mid/high frequency click, and it only comes when I'm on the downward stroke with the non-drive side of the crank. I Took the bike into the shop where i bought it because I was experiencing some chain rubbing...and told the guy about it. He Did his work and, in a moment of genius, I didnt take the bike outside and check.

I'm going to take it back in on Friday and have one of the mechanics ride it. I'm just curious about what you guys think is the problem.

It could be the pedals. I had some noises come from my bike as well when pedaling down during climbs. It ended up being the bottom bracket. Is there any play in your cranks? What I mean is, can you grasp the crank arm and wiggle it at all? I had about a few millimeters of play in mine. It was a little surprising that it happened since I only had that BB for about a year (XT BB). Not sure how many miles they are typically good for, though. I do ride a lot.

Have you checked whether the crank arm bolts and the chain wheel bolts are tight?

Well...the bike only has around 84 miles on it, and there is no play in the cranks. I'll just take it into the shop tomorrow morning and have one of the guys there ride it.

Thanks folks :D

Grease the seatpost. I had my bb taken apart and repacked before realizing my seatpost needed lubing!

I am having the same problem on my OCR 2! Non drive side clicking while climbing. I tried climbing with only my drive side in and it doesn't do it, and I tried with the non drive side clicked in and it would click. I had the bike shop try and I even tried at the bike shop and it wouldn't click. One I left and did a slight incline (Florida) it would click. 16mph @ 60rpm gets it clicking every time while going up. They even tighted the crank even though they couldn't get it clicking.

Problem solved. I had my lbs check it out. The guy ended up rebuilding the bb, and ta-daah...no clicking. I'm doing a ride tomorrow, so I guess I'll see if its really gone, but both me and the guy working on the problem rode the bike after he "fixed it"..so things are looking good. :D

I'm surprised no one suggested the bottom bracket. I just posted a thread on the single speed forum, I had my bottom bracket replaced this afternoon. I was having the same problem as you. It cost $35 to put in a new one.

I had a creak in my rear wheel while climbing. Took off the rear cassette, greased the spline (which was bone dry), reinstalled and viola! Problem solved.

If it only has 84 miles, you should be doing a tighten everything, check everything run anyway...I would also look at the stem...even though it sounds like pedals or BB...just go around the bike once...it's a good move for safety anyway
