General Cycling Discussion - www.replicatreasures.com?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Would the replica oakleys from www.replicatreasures.com offer the same eye protection as the genuine ones?
I found this on an optical website so they should be ok.
Always look for a label that identifies the lens as having a UV rating. It should say either UV400, 100 percent UV protection or Maximum UV protection. Avoid sunglasses without that label.
Well, on the website it does say that the shades have uv400 coating...
so would you buy from them?
Perhaps I am wrong, but should you trust an on-line store that so openly takes pride in doing 'shady' business? Producing and selling 'replica' or 'fake' versions of articles that are likely under all sorts of brand/copyright/etc. protection, does not seem to be very legal to me. If you insist on their 'to good to be true' prices, make sure to do some research as to this 'company's' credentials.
I think they can get away with it because they are not selling fakes as AUTHENTIC oakley's. They are not out to fool ppl, ppl who go to the site KNOWS that they are buying fakes. So I don't really think they are doing something illegal. Do you really think they consumers who go to buy fake oakleys would actually plunk down the dough the buy real ones if they couldn't buy fakes? No, they wouldn't be able to afford it.

They "offer the best fake oakleys"? That's funny. I guess they'd be OK. My issue would be w/ how shatterproof they are? I would want them to be at least as safe as real Oakleys. Have a glass/plastic shard in your eye isn't worth $60.
i think they should be shatter proof, as are many really cheap protective eyewear...
i'm just concerned about the UV400 rating, is that an expensive coating to put on?
I sell original Oakley's because I get them from the Factory Direct. Oakley's superior lenses are well known the world over, that is why so many athletes depend on them, Lance included. So the answer is simple, they probably will offer some kind of eye protection, but they won't be as effective as the Oakley lenses.
in what way will the authentic ones be more 'effective'? the fakes ones are labelled as UV400 too.

I think Oakley claims that their lenses offer up to .22 cal ballistic protection. Granted I'm not sure I'd ever attempt to put that to the test.
yup, nobody is really looking for bulletproof eyewear here lol...
just wanna make sure it won't shatter and has real UV400 rating or not..anybody had experiences with this company?
It is one of the featured sponsors from google..

I have heard of people throwing rocks at cyclists but shooting at them?Protection from 22 caliber is that 22 short Long Rifle Hornet or 22 Magnum?

Well... there was that one scene in Black Hawk Down where Eric Bana's character loads his MTB (he was using a MTB on a SPECOPS recon mission) into the rear cabin of a UH60 all the while sporting some Oakleys. Of course that's been stated as a "goof" because the Oakley Juliets he was wearing didn't exist at the time the events of movie was supposed to take place.
who cares really, but would these glasses REALLY have UV400 coating?
Hell they are $15, buy a pair and find out for yourself.
yea, how would I find out if it's truly rated at UV400 or not? please tell me how...

Measure the radiance from a known UV light source then put the lens between the UV light and the radiometer to see how much attenuation there is.
Not really what you wanted to know, huh? :)

Why not just buy some real Tifosi glasses. $50 gets you clear, smoke, and persimmon tint lenses, a cleaning bag, and a hard case. And they offer real protection, better than a scam knock off company. Any body can print up a sticker with any claim on it.
Here in NC a cop (highway patrolman?) was shot, point blank, in the face with a sawed off shot gun, bird shot I think, during a traffic stop.. His Oakleys saved his eyes

wow, when did that happen? is the news online?
UV protection is not the only guide to buying glasses. Optical clarity is another factor. Crappy (cheap) lenses won't have as good optical clarity as more expensive ones. You don't have to spend a ton of money to get good shades, but you should spend good money to protect your eyes.

Here is one "bullet proof glasses" story

you might want to try eyesave.com...they have authentics at a pretty good discount. I'm pretty sure they have Oakleys, and I bet they'd special order them for you if they didn't.
