A local thrift shop had one of these, sorry but no pics. It had a headbadge that said Foremost. Seat tube sticker said something along the lines of Guaranteed Lightweight (or something like that). Steel front fender, raised center ridge ahead of the fork, big dent in the fender behind the fork. Missing the rear fender and chain guard. 3speed rear with just the shift chain dangling, no cable, no shifter, I didn't check for brand or year. Wheel bearings were sloppy loose front and rear. Cottered cranks. Steel 26"x1-3/8" wheels. Non-descript coil sprung seat with manmade cover material. Upright handlebars. I don't recall if the brakes were center or side pulls since by that point I'd already decided to pass on it in spite of the sub-$15 price tag.
Just posting an inquiry about the Foremost brand, I'm thinking they were a side brand or re-badged from the bike boom era. Ust looking for a little Foremost history out of curiosity.
Thanks

I think "Guaranteed Lightweight" decal has been seen on imported Hercules branded bikes, which were Raleigh made.
About the only history you'll find is maybe a picture somewhere.

I'm standing here looking at it "live via the internet" 8-).
Sticker says:
Guaranteed Genuine English Lightweight".
Rear hub is a SturmeyArcher AW with a "64" followed by a lone "8" so I'll assume either 1968 or 1978, not sure how late the cottered cranks ran into the 70's.
52cm frame, 54 top tube. Still a pass. Thanks for the input on it.

Foremost was sold through Kmart, IIRC. Hub date is August 1968. Rebadged Raleigh.

Foremost was actually J.C. Penney's brand - Kmart's was All-Pro.
+1
J.C. Penny's house brand

I was all set to chime in about JC Penney, but no need now....

Under $15? I'd wheel it home as a project-bike. Make a decent 3-speed out of her. Without fenders - hate how they rattle - and with new brake-pads and cables. Then sell it. As long as the - gamble here - SA hub was good, it would be fun.
