I'm thinking about buying a set of Salsa Bell Lap handlebars. Normally, I use 42 cm handlebars, but I wasn't sure with the way Bell Laps are flared if I should still get 42 cm or if another size is more appropriate.

Are the Bell Laps measured at the bar ends or at the tops?

If I understand the theory correctly, it seems like I would want bars that were about 42 cm at the hoods (based on my should width) and bars that are wider at the drops have a slight handling advantage. Is that right? Close?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I am running these bars on my redline and love them. The Flared drops are really comfortable and add a fair amount of control. The width is measured from the hoods in the center of the bar not the flare. I find the hoods more comfy as well as they are tilted out ever so slightly.

Is it easier to reach the shifters with the bell lap bars?

I would not say it is easier but it puts them in a more comfortable position for me in the drops and the hoods.
