I've scoured the net and can't find anyone who has these in stock. I have a broken one on the left shifter (Ultegra 6600 silver series, double). I'd like to make it nice again so I'm open to suggestions on where I might find one of these little buggers.

A Shimano dealer can order one. Ask at your LBS.

Do you have the part numbers? Look here (http://techdocs.shimano.com/techdocs/index.jsp).

Lots of online dealer stock them too, the terms you need to put into Google are: shimano ultegra replacement name plate

Shimano are apparently out of stock, so the LBS is in the same boat as the online retailers (I did try).

Yes, did try that. Every one I found was back-ordered on this particular part (Shifter Lever Cap works too).

How did it get broken? If it's this much hassle to replace it, I'd like to try to avoid having to do so!

Don't really know as it came that way. I bought it with a frame that had only had one brifter (the left one obviously) and even that was damaged. I've bought new Ultegra SL brifters but I wanted to clean this one up so that I can sell it as an orphan on eBay rather than toss it. I think the guy I bought it from said something about working on the bike upside down, but more like it was hit by or hit something. The bike isn't heavy enough to dent marshmallows let alone crack a name-plate :-D

Just wait until stock comes back in. I ordered several when I had a similar problem. They're not expensive.
