Road Bike Racing - Milan San Remo

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
The big races are just around the corner. The early season cruises are over and those smart enought to aim for them took home wins and points.
I always run contest for the top events. I always wondered what people though.
So I am asking - Who do you think will win this years running of Milan San Remo?
I personally really do not have a good guess. Been away from the pro scene for a while and finally the years are catching up to me but I see Zabel and possibly Cipollini. Yes Mario. Only if he is really hungry and his team has quickly adapted to his style. even George Hincapie has a good shot if his team actually delivers. He will need their help greatly and thruthfully USPS is very doubtful this year with their unimpressive roster.
Actually, I think Armstrong is supposed to be in MSR, but he's supporting Hincapie. I think Hincapie also has a good chance. Cipolllini really wants to win- it may be his last and it's his birthday. Zabel could win again. It's a sprinter's race, so any of the good sprinters could do it, depending on which teams are in.
Thnaks for the insight. Hopefully Lance does actually show up and actually works for his teammates. If so it ill be very interesting. Expecially if Mario has made publicly he wants to win.
I always liked and always will like Paris Roubaix but Milan San Remo this year can take some fans that route.

If Cipo survives La Cipressa, he's going to be working VERY hard to win this sprint. It's his major goal for 2002. Zabel will be fighting just as hard to repeat. Hincapie, Vainsteins, McEwen and the rest will just have to stay out of their way.
I would like to see Cipo win but it will be too hard. He is a pure sprinter, nothing more. Not only the last kms are hard and fast but the last couple of meters to the line tend to have a slight grade up. Cipo has never done well in these sprints. He is more a flat to downhill sprinter. His team will also have to be there 100% with at leat 3-4 riders. Also very hard to do.
Another one with a great shot is Jalabert. He will need at least 1-2 good teammates with him in the last kms.

I don't know... Cipollini came second last year. When he survives the climbs, he can do quite well. And I think he's really motivated this year. This isn't Jaja's kind of race. It will almost certainly end in a bunch sprint and. although Jalabert CAN sprint, he won't.
