Great Lakes - Chicago Warm Spell-->Post Your Rides

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Looks like we're in for a warm up. Enough that we can get back on the bike and ride outside. In an effort to motivate us I thought it would be fun to post our rides and see how we compare with one another.
Instead of miles, let's use time as the reference point. You can round up if you want but keep it reasonable. Be honest.
Enjoy the sunshine.

I hope to ride Sunday, The first time since 12/05/2009.
I'm hoping to ride either Saturday or Sunday, about 60 to 90 minutes. I rode New Years Day and there was a lot of snow and salt on my route, leading up to a messy road bike.
I'm in the Joliet/Plainfield area.

I hope to ride Sunday as well. First time outside since November, although I have been doing other exercising. My goal is 40 minutes. The snow pack as of now is still 12 inches so there will still be messy roads.

Sunday, planning on two hours, 1st ride of 2010.
I had a 2.5 hour trainer session planned.
I stopped at Lickton's yesterday & picked up my re-cabling supplies.
I guess I'll be able to postpone that project due to good weather. :D
Thanks for the additional motivation Mayo
Cheers,
Kelly

Fantastic, I leave tomorrow for Orlando and won't have any opportunity for actual riding. How sad is it that I'm really hoping that the place we are staying has a decent stationary bike?

i mean we could if we rode the darn thing for seventy-two hours or something? i think i have hit 90 a couple times on the trainer with some hard hour efforts. totally ready to get outside tomorrow. one or two rides outside in Jan will keep me chugging along inside until Spring! later.

I purposely try to do harder rides outside and then base or recovery on the vomitron.
^^^^ easy for the retired guy to say :) .
i was dedicated last year and didnt think i could tolerate any more trainer hours then i did. i am well ahead of last years pace, but still need more. what is beyond dedication? crazy? i need to find it.

I don't know what youse guys are smoking? I am only 40 miles west of the Windy, and, even though promised, we haven't seen the temp above freezing yet.
"The Beast", in the basement (Schwinn Airdyne) is getting all my exertion since it started snowing.......

Taking Sunday off.
I'm a bit overcooked. Tired. Yesterday was cold (27) but I forced myself to go.

Today the last 10 miles were a death march for me. I had frozen fingers, not enough energy, heavy legs, it was painful to muster 130W.
All in all 50 miles with the group at 28 degrees... never really warmed up :(
The last time I suffered that much was during the Dairyland Dare.

I wussed out. Freezing fog? Thank you, no.
Just finished up 2.5 hours of Z1 on the trainer. Brutal but warm.
Cheers,
Kelly
Edit: Oh, WTF happened to 40 degrees?

Saturday 59 minutes, 38 TSS, wow ... more recovery or just laziness?

Took my inaugural ride for '10. Watched the sun go behind the clouds about halfway through my 0:45 10 miler; 34F seemed to get colder in spite of the layers and the balaclava that I picked up at the Chicagoland
Winter Bike Swap yesterday. Maybe I can get in another ride tomorrow.... if I can remember all those layers.
p.s. Does 34 constitute an official warm spell??

Slightly OT: Was up at Greenbush for a ski race today (well known for the ToAD RR that runs through there) The ski trails are up in the pine forest, pretty high up on a ridge. Up there it was 24F, cloudy, foggy, with snow showers. Five miles away, and down from the ridge, it was 27F with the sun coming out. 45 miles south, in Milwaukee, there was full sunshine and 32F. Melting snow.
No signs of spring in Greenbush right now. :)

Despite the fact that the temperature topped out a seasonal 25 instead of the originally promised 36 (or was it 40?) I went 44 minutes with the freezing fog still on everything. Looked pretty cool, I might add. How many times do you get the opportunity to ride with freezing fog?

On wednesday or something, I went for a quick 8 mile ride. I had to be back at school by one, though, for lifting.

I rode my MTB around on the park roads before skiing today, so that was my first ride of the year and I'm 'on the board' !

Well I would say generally the weekend was a bust relative to the earlier predicted weather, but I also got out for 44 minutes on Monday so I can't complain too much.

didnt make it out riding when that little bout of heat hit over here, still on the rollers every day. adn i know its time to get back out on the street when:
1.) i actually start to enjoy riding the rollers and
2.) while watching the RealRides Race day i turn off the side of my rollers during the section in downers after the downhill where the turn is tight...
