I just purchased this Women's 1984 Giant-made Schwinn "World", for $10.

It needs tires, and has a few paint scrapes, but overall it is in good condition with Shimano DR's and NO RUST (My criterion for flips).

It also has a 17" gas pipe frame, Stem mounted shifters, foam grips, Sakae cranks,Turkey wings and nutted hubs...(ugh!)

As usual, I'll shine it up, and do the tires, cables, housings, BB, hubs, head set, and new bar tape:
What do you suppose a womans' Schwinn like this would be worth?

$50-75 maybe higher if you find the right person and sell it during cycling season

Thanks EjustE - That's about what I was hoping to hear.

+1 $75. Paint looks really good. A recreational rider would be very happy to get it in ready to ride condition.

I'm trying to sell this one for $50.00

===============================
Schwinn World Sport 10 speed road bike (mixte frame)
color BLACK
19" frame (crank to top of seat tube)
wheels good
tires almost new (27 x 1 1/4")
always garaged
new pedals
no kickstand
needs a chain due to slight chain hop in a couple gears
with a tiny bit of work this bike can be considered in like new condition, everything but chain works perfectly and bike is so clean

Hi rumrunn6-
Living so far North of the Mason Dixon, we should both take E's advice to sell in the spring !

That World Sport is not a mixte.

+1. Wasn't "step through" the correct name for these?

We just called it "a girl's bike". :)

I think a "step though" frame has curved down tubes

what's a mixte frame?

yeah - should sell in spring - it's worth $100 but i need to make room ...

A mixte has three sets of stays. And many only consider a bike with a split top tube and three sets of stays to be a mixte.

This is a mixte:

Words like: "needs a new chain, has a slight hop" and "with a tiny bit of work" are deal killers around here. Buyers want bikes that are ready to ride. Many casual riders have no idea how cheap a chain is, or how simple it is to replace. They see it as a $100 problem.

Project bikes sell way below market around here, usually half or less.

As Bill said, that "chain hop" in a couple of gears is the deal breaker here... I would seriously suggest getting a new chain, getting that thing 100% and re-list it. 99% or the people do not know what a chain hop is and from the 1% who know, might wonder if there are any issues like RD reach or worn freewheel teeth in play here...

just saying...

ok, makes sense. I have a new chain I can put on it.

If that chain hop is due to chain wear and not just a stiff link, rumrunn6, then there is a good chance you'll need a new freewheel to go with that new chain.

if that's the case 'll just put another used rear wheel on it or i might advertise it for free. I have enough on my plate and just want to make room. I sold 3 bikes last night for $85, one had a bent frame and the guy just wanted parts. it is what it is and it's really a matter of finding the right home for it. I wish the person who sold it to me was up front about what issues it had so I could decide based on truth in advertising. too bad that some people selling old used bikes misrepresent them.

I would go for a new freewheel - they are not expensive ( http://www.niagaracycle.com/product_info.php?products_id=411920) and with some elbow and bearing grease, new tires, cables, hsg and tape you can cut your losses significantly when you go to sell it. - Notice I did not say "profit"? It's true that when sellers are (A) not knowledgeable about their own bikes or (B) not forthright, you have to deal with little things like this, and there is no profit in it.

- It's kind of incumbent on you to evaluate the bike at the point of sale, but if you are like ME, you won't scrutinize a bike very much when the price is very low. - When it does NOT work out favorably, I just tell myself " it's a hobby " and all the fun I'm having is worth the cost. . . Sometimes it DOES work out though - recently I bought a Vent Noir for a ridiculous price and found myself opening my wallet before I even took the bike of its hook, so as not to appear to be looking a gift horse in the mouth in front of the seller.

I just posted an 85-19 inch ladies world in my area for $125. Changed out the bars to alloy/new tires, rack, and sprung seat added. Nice little bike. Made with alloy rims to get the weight down [advertisement from the web]. Yet the hubs are not alloy. Still lighter than a suburban. I think they are under rated.
