65 Mile ride today with BF Member davidad.
We stopped for a break and he told me about his rear tire.
It just passed 12,033 miles.

That is awsome, I see he realizes his tires number is coming up.
I can't get my tires past 4,000 miles.

Unbelievable. Does he rotate tires? Does he weigh 120 lbs?

I almost got that far on the same tires, but the bead threads started coming off. I probably could have kept going. The tread was fine. I'm 170 and had loaded panniers on the bike almost all the time.

Interesting. Really piqued my interest until I read:

Now I'm confused.

12k is really good, especially for a rear tire. It could be helpful for us to learn more about Davidad's riding habits. Tire Pressure, surface type, etc. What sort of temperatures does he usually ride in? I've seen tires last longer in colder climates than warm ones.
FYI, my 700x32 Panaracer Ribmo rear tire is at around 6k and I'm hoping for 8-10k. I guess panaracer's doing something right!?
I'm amazed and impressed. My commuter bike eats through tires (Schwalbe marathons) like popcorn. Tires on bigger wheels definitely hold up much better.
Aside from that... would you be comfortable starting a tour with tires that already have 10,000 miles on them? I guess if you have a spare tire in your bag, why not....

I have over 8000 mi on my front tire (700C x 32 Panaracer Pasela TG - folding), but the rear was replaced at about the 4500 mi mark. I weigh anywhere from 190 to 205 lb and run a pressure in the tires of about 85 - 90 psi. When on tour, I always carry a spare tire (and tubes, of course) with me, but have not needed one yet.

123 decibles: 87 mile ride today we had at least 8 dog atacks.
Used the horn on three on them.
It can be found in the boating section of Walmart $10 bucks.
They have different sizes.
I use a small one on my drop bars.
