Its big enough - I can't find the article with a simple Google - that the NYT did a piece on it quite some time ago, but with the advent of whole body shaving and more mainstream acceptance of porn, women (and men) have new insecurities imposed by society to deal with.

She's always been kind of goofy... I think she was still living with her mom up until fairly recently (maybe she still does). I suspect there's been a lot of suppressed sexuality in her life - or, she's simply trying to make herself more visible in a town that's chock-full of attractive 30something actresses - she's probably trying to pull a Sharon Stone here and keep herself in movies/TV for much longer than the little bit of acting talent she has should be keeping her there.
