Ok racer dudes and dudeettes, I've been training in a seemingly vain effort to improve my cycling performance and was looking for an event as a test. My coach has recommended the Wintergreen Ascent TT near Charlottesville, VA. Does anyone have any information on the date for this event? I've looked at various sites but can't get a fix.

May 1st.

you can ride up a hill anytime. stay closer to home and do the Michael P. Murad Road Race in Poolesville instead.

Thanks for the pointer! I thought I checked the VA Cyling site. Oh well. How is that section of River Rd? Last time I was out there, it was pretty rough and I would guess it didn't fare too well due to the recent snow.

i think you might be referring to the poolesville hs road race, which goes on the gravel section of river road vs. the MPM, which links hughes, sugarland, partnership, river, hughes and doesnt go on the gravel part.

some friends and i race up mount weather out in berryville, which is 7.25 miles 1250 feet of climbing, not too bad. there is also blue mountain a little further out. and then some roads near skyline. no need to go all the way down there.

We were just trying to find a target event towards which to work. Those sound like nice routes and I've ridden the roads out Loudound, Clarke, Warren & Fauquier counties. I suspect that we'll hit those routes anyway as things warm up a bit anyway.

Too bad for the race conflict this year. People keep telling me I need to do more uphill TTs. Murad is a good course, and odds are good that Murad 2010 wouldn't go worse than 2009 for me! Come to think of it...given my track record at Murad (race shortened for lightening, having mechanical issues after almost running over another racer's face lying on the pavement), maybe I should do the TT.
