They sent me my renewal, they wanted $277 for two cars for a year. I called them and told them that was way too high, they cut it to $144.

Is that still too high? What are you paying?

Well, x2 = about what I'd be paying for two cars. Should be less. Second one should be half price. I'll call and re-bust their XM balls. And this time no more Mr. Nice Guy.

I never called them. My trial was going to expire after 3mo and they kept calling with a better offer. I consistently ignored them until it was off. Then they called my wife and offered her about $7/month. She signed up for me.

Next year we'll do the same thing. I may end up without XM. It's just not very important to me.

God luck with your negotiations, I expect you'll get a bit further with them.

Everybody I know likes XM, but can take it or leave it. I think that = Business Model Fail. For example my cable bill, which averages $245 monthly for phone/TV/high speed internet? Hell, that's more essential than the friggin heat here.

I'm paying just under $45 per quarter or almost $180 per year for one vehicle. I think it's time to call and renegotiate with them. I can't go without my XM.

I have Sirrus and it was $245 for 24 months. I heard that if you ignore the cancellation they will come back with a $5 month offer.

I will push the XM envelope. And all I have to do is....

nothing.

I am inclined to agree. I like it, I use it at the house, but it is not a priority. ( I have Sirius, pay about $12 per month.

I had a rental car with XM, for the period of the rental, that's all I listened too. But being in the car for less than an hour at a time, I don't think I'd pay for it. If I had my old job which required weekly travel by car, I would be a lot more convinced to pay for radio.

I have Sirius and I think I pay about $12 a month. My wife, who is more frugal than I am, pays by the year. I forget exactly what she pays but I seem to recall the annual fee being about equal to getting 4 months free...so I believe she is paying around $96 a year. We both really like it.

However, since I now have an ipod...

Wow, you pay how much for WHAT?

Geez!

And I feel guilty paying $12.36/month for cable since we can't get an antenna to do the job...

1. Zero commercials
2. Get just the music you want/like
3. Tons of talk shows, old "golden age" shows to listen to, etc
4. No fuzzing in and out of stations while on road trips
5. No static when you live in the mountains like I do
6. No hunting through CD's when the current one of over.

It's 100% worth it for me. I'm around ~ $100 a year for the service. Interestingly, I got another car unit at a garage sale, plugged it in and it received all the stations right away. HHmm, so instead of starting a new subscription I decided to wait until the unit dropped service. That was around 6 months ago now and it's still working. Maybe I got a lifetime subscription? :D

First they dropped World Zone.
Then they dropped Beyond Jazz.
Then they dropped C-SPAN.

Then I dropped them.

And no echo like HD radio either. The delay and the regular signal interruptions make it really annoying to listen to at times, especially if you'd want to listen to the radio in more than one room at the same time. We use XM at work and the program choices, sound and service are way better on XM than with HD. But I can't tell you what we pay for it.

Wait. You pay for radio?

In the US you have to.. Radio stations have been monopolized by chains that dumb down radio and play crap.. Those same people who have destroyed US radio content also own satellite Radio.. I think their plan is intentional.. Destroy public radio with their centralized control with networks such a "Clear Channel." Instead of music they give you Rush Limbaugh.. So , suckers buy their satellite music... In the US there are no content laws for radio, so they do what they want with news and entertainment..
I refuse to enrich those who have destroyed a once culturally rich radio system. So, I pay zero . I'll go without rather than pay their ransom.

((((XM)))) Rocks ... :thumb:

Standard Rate is $9.99/Month for Music and $6.99/Month for additional radios.
You can call and negotiate a lifetime subscription for around $300.

Whatever my workplace is paying for it, it's probably too much.

It's almost as bad as terrestrial radio at this point. How do you manage to play the same song two or three times a day with an entire frigging decade's worth of music to draw from, or and entire bloody genre!?!?! It's the same songs every single day too. Since the XM Sirius merger, the diversity of the music has gone way down.

Internet radio everywhere there's WiFi, Zune everywhere there's not. Paying for radio is like volunteering to pay extra taxes.

I do enjoy XM Radio. Great stuff, you can't get that on regular radio today.

They'll almost give it away not to lose a customer. Once they lose you they know they'll never get you back.

My wife found it in the street.

After having it a while now...I'd like it even if I'd paid for it. :)

Ditto. If I'm on a trip long enough to require audio entertainment, I'll put in a CD.

I think I've turned on the radio in my car once... just to see if the fancy automatic antenna worked.

I like listening to talk radio here in SMF, but our local stations pretty much suck compared to what you can pick up in the Bay Area.

I actually *like* automated over the air stations that don't use jocks. Just play the music, and I'll switch off to another station during the 20 minutes of endless commercials each hour.

I find it interesting that the NYT is about to start charging for its online content, like the WSJ. I think they're going to find a hard go of it. I'm certainly not going to pay for it. The WSJ I might - I believe their news is actually *worth* it, but journalism (and radio) are ultimately doomed by the Internet, IMHO. Anyone can take some video and write a story about it. I see a trend towards "investigative" journalism being done in a novel or documentary form.
