I currently have Hutchinson Fusion Long Distance race tires on my new bike. I am not to happy with them.
I have had flats, apparently pinch flats, yet i keep my tires at least 110psi.
I also think they are delicate. I have tears and small cuts that appear to be making the tire more likely to puncture. I think the tread area is too soft.
anyway. I was looking at putting on a more suitable tire for the bad roads and rocks and trash that I always seem to run over.
RoadbikeReview.com gives me answers from both extremes!
I wonder how much real world experience anyone here has with the Conti Ultra Gatorskins. they run about $35. Are there any drawbacks to the wire bead? i know it will be a little heavier. but, i won't be racing, just riding from 20 to 30 mph, 30 only when trying to hang on the back of the fast guys. I also want to do century rides and don't need to worry about flimsy tires.
I see the Conti Gran Prix 3000 foldables are also very popular. Would it be a good safe tire also? they do cost a little more, but if a lot better than the Gatorskins would consider them.
My old bike i just sold I put Hutchinson Excels on and was very happy with them. they only cost $23!
Maybe i better get some for this bike? not a race tire, but rode and worked well.
thanks for any input, i am sure the more information i get the more confused i will be!
