Leffingwell Blvd West to Colima North, then down Turnbull Canyon into Whittier. Turn North, go under the 60 freeway. Make your way back to Colima, then Take Fullerton Road up and over back into La Habra. (Fullerton turns into Harbor - you'll go right by La Habra Cyclery).
If climbing's what you're looking for, you can take the 605 freeway North to the end and climb hwy 39 into the Angeles Natl. Forest. There's also Glendora Mtn. Road, Mt. Baldy road, etc.
Google maps can help you find all these routes.
As for renting a bike, I can't help you. Perhaps call La Habra C. and ask what they think.
Good luck!

I can't vouch for riding in La Habra, but MapMyRide should give you some routing ideas. Also this map should help if you ride more into Orange County.

Bring pontoons for the bike -- the weather folks are predicting huge amounts (by SoCal standards) of rain next week, starting this Sunday night and going through (at least) next Thursday.
Coastal/Valleys = 4-8 inches; Inland Valleys/Mountains = 8-12 inches, up to 20 inches in some mountain areas; 3 feet of snow above 6,000 feet.
IF we get that much rain, those who choose to ride will need to be careful to avoid low-lying areas, river trails, and flotsam in general.
