Starts at our *new* place (Ruth and I) at 0830.
PM me for address, but it is basically near downtown San Mateo or even closer to the Hayward Park Caltrain Station.
36 miles, apx 3300 feet.
Don't be fooled by stats, this is constant up and down with steep but relatively short climbs. I know all of these hills pretty well as all of them except for one small addition were part of various San Mateo Night Rides of last winter.
We have to be done before 1 PM, so the ride has to be short for us.
Here is the route:
http://bikeroutetoaster.com/Course.aspx?course=96865
- Crystal Springs to Alameda de las Pulgas from downtown San Mateo
- Climb Parrot to CSM and fly down W Hillsdale
- Climb Stairstep climb on Alameda de las Pulgas toward Belmont, and then turn right near the top to extend it on one ridiculous final push on some side roads I know. Continue down Alameda toward Ralston
- Climb the infamous Hastings/Club, nice Bay views as you approach the top
- Then down Halmark/Ralston/Pohlemus to the Pohlemus bike trail which will quickly take you to Canada
- Canada to Edgewood, short fast descent on Edgewood.
- Climb Crestview. Takes you to the same place as Hastings/Club. Hard Climb right from the start, one break halfway up. Pretty sure this is over a mile long of average grade in the teens.
- Then down Halmark/Ralston/Pohlemus to Bunker Hill
- Climb Bunker Hill, hardest part of this road is at the very end. (Of course)
- Down Skyline/Crystal Springs
- Climb Wedgewood /Southdown to Black Mountain. These tough hills were discovered by Paula before she moved over to Loma Mar. Thus they have been nicknamed "The Paula Hills" by night ride participants.
- Descend Skyline/Crystal Springs back to downtown San Mateo
We will probably grab a quick bite downtown on the way back to our place.
