I'm heading to Oak Island in the spring and am hoping that I can enjoy taking a beach cruiser onto the strand. I did that in Hilton Head last year and had a blast.

Do you know if the beach on Oak Island is decent enough to ride on?

Also, I'll probably be taking my road bike to put in some decent miles while in the area. Do you have any tips? Areas to avoid or places that I've got to see?

Thanks for your help!!

Low tide shouldn't be a problem riding on the beach. High tide, when only soft sand is available, will be tough and a pain in the arse.

check out http://www.pedalers.southport.org/ for road rides or http://www.capefearcyclists.org/ if you want to come up to wilmington. there might be some links to other groups on either one of those sites.
