Hey there
I went on my first "road ride" today with my SO. Right now I have a mountian bike (trek 4500) so my SO put some road tires on it for today's ride. In a few words..I was struggling! Granted it was my first road ride (I generally ride trails), but I am considering getting a road bike now. I have gotten my $'s worth from the mountian bike, but I am nervous about making another investment.
My goal is to become a stronger rider...but boy says that will only come with long road rides.
I should add that he works at a bike shop and I can get a super deal on a road bike. Should I take the plunge?

I think it would be a wise investment. Even if you don't fall completely in love with road riding, if anything, road riding will make you a stronger MTB rider. Since you can get a good deal on a road bike then I would say go for it.

G'day,

Your SO obviously likes to see you suffer!....putting road tyres on a mountain bike, doesn't make it a 'roadie'!. It will still be heavy, cumbersome, to highly geared, etc, etc to ride for any length of time on the road....even worse if it's got suspension!. If you are planning on doing road rides, you need a 'roadie'. You will find it significantly easier to ride than an MTB on the road.....

cheers,

Hitchy

OH YEAH!!!

You'll love a road bike. The speed is addictive.

Definitely. The more you ride on the road, the stronger (and faster) you'll get. Road bikes rock! Best of luck to you.
